Position Summary:

The EHS Manager job duties will include the planning, directing, and implementing of environmental health and safety programs to ensure a positive, safe and healthy work environment and will be responsible for the compliance with all environmental and safety regulatory agencies. The EHS Manager will also oversee and direct the Sustainability program.

Essential Functions of the Job:

  • Provide training, direction, guidance, and advice to ensure all employees are provided with a safe working environment
  • Plan and implement procedures, programs and file regulatory reports in compliance with local, state, and federal agencies
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of applicable state and federal OSHA laws along with EPA and EGLE regulations and provide appropriate information to management
  • Ensure environmental permits are up to date, maintain data, prepare and submit all necessary regulatory reporting
  • Ensure the company follows all environmental programs including Spill Prevention, Control and Contingency (SPCC), PIPP, Storm Water, Air Emissions, Drinking Water, Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response
  • Track and prepare all information related to Tier II, TRI, and MAERS annual reporting
  • Develop and lead internal audit teams to ensure on-going company compliance
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities related to environmental, health and safety issues
  • Chair Company Safety Committee and Sustainability Committee
  • Plan, implement, and conduct Incident/Accident investigation and prevention programs including handling worker's compensation claims
  • Collaborate with management to develop an Emergency Action Plan
  • Maintain OSHA 300 Log to ensure injuries/illnesses are recorded and reported timely
  • Manage OSHA Health & Safety Management System
  • Provide supervision and direction to Safety, Environmental, and Sustainability Coordinator(s)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA's):

  • Expanded knowledge of State/Federal regulations including OSHA, MIOSHA, EPA, and EGLE
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with diverse work groups at all levels of the organization.
  • Able to plan, organize, and prioritize work while demonstrating flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Working knowledge in MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to work extended hours as needed to complete assignments.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in safety or environmental related program. 10 years of direct work experience will be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • 5 or more years of EHS exempt level experience required.
  • 5 or more years' experience in a Manufacturing operation is preferred.

Working Conditions: Office setting and manufacturing environment. Personal protective equipment required when on the production floor.
