This class is responsible for performing scheduled maintenance on all city vehicles and equipment, repair breakdowns, plow snow, advise operators in safe and proper operation.
Perform highly skilled and complex mechanical repairs on both heavy equipment and small equipment. Perform routine maintenance on all city vehicles, by determining which vehicles are due for service and what needs to be done.
Repair vehicles and equipment when breakdowns occur. Answer service calls for repairs that need to be performed in the field.
Fabricate and repair using welding and cutting equipment. Perform body repair to vehicles and equipment as needed.
Clean shop and maintain tools and repair equipment.
Maintain records of all repairs and maintenance by entering into computer. Perform inventory of parts room and order parts as needed to maintain stock.
Perform snow plowing and salting operation
Set up/build police and fire vehicles.
Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.
High school diploma, up to 1 year of specialized or technical training in auto/equipment repair, welding, and hydraulic systems, and 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and related auto/equipment; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the duties listed above.
Licensing Requirements:
- Class B license with air brake endorsement.
- DOT certification
