The General Services Department (GSD) supports the operations of state government by providing essential services, including procurement, risk management, facilities management, transportation services, and printing services. The Facilities Management Division (FMD) is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and renovation of state-owned buildings and facilities. FMD ensures that state workplaces are safe, functional, and sustainable, supporting the daily operations of government agencies across New Mexico.

Why does the job exist?
This position is responsible for providing essential maintenance and plumbing services at the Pinetree and CYFD facilities in Albuquerque, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of plumbing systems.
How does it get done?
The Plumber will install, maintain, repair, and replace plumbing and irrigation systems in state-owned facilities.
Responsibilities include:
- Reading blueprints and technical drawings to plan and execute plumbing, waste disposal, and water supply system layouts.
- Cut, assemble, and install pipes and tubing while considering the existing infrastructure.
- Communicate with vendors, employees, and managers to ensure accurate diagnostics and efficient service delivery.

Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate will have the following experience and skills:
- Experience in a commercial setting
- Must hold a current certificate of competence as a Journeyman Plumber in accordance with NMSA 1978, Section 60-13-33, 36, 38 and 39 and NMSA 1978, Sections 60-13-9.8, and 14.6.4 NMAC.
- Knowledge of all plumbing aspects including faucets, sinks, toilets, water lines, irrigation and shut offs.
Minimum Qualification
High School Diploma or equivalent and six (6) months of experience maintaining and repairing existing plumbing systems in addition to the minimum experience requirements for a journeyman plumbing certificate to include piping systems and fixtures in accordance with the currently adopted New Mexico Plumbing Code. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) months may substitute for the required experience. Must be journeyman certified in accordance with the Construction Industries Licensing Act, NMSA 1978, Section 60-13-33, 36, 38 and 39 and NMSA 1978, Sections 60-13-9., A and K and 14.6.4 NMAC.
Employment Requirements
Pre-employment background investigation is required and is conditional pending results. Must possess & maintain a current & valid New Mexico Driver's License. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must be journeyman certified in accordance with the Construction Industries Licensing Act, NMSA 1978, Section 60-13-33, 36, 38 and 39 and NMSA 1978, Sections 60-13-9., A and K and 14.6.4 NMAC.
Working Conditions
Exposure to Visual Video Display terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and telephone usage with extended period of walking. Responding to occupants in a professional manner and addressing issues in a timely manner.
