Job Description:
GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Electrician II will test, repair, install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment; troubleshoot electrical and related equipment; maintain adequate inventory of equipment and materials; inspect the work of outside contractors; determine materials and/or equipment necessary for a job and on-the-job procedure changes; perform related work, as required. The basic purpose of this work is to ensure the safe and adequate functioning of electrical systems and equipment.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Test, repair, install and/or maintain various types of electrical systems and equipment by operating the appropriate equipment and tools to ensure proper maintenance and functioning of necessary equipment.
Install pipe, wiring, and devices associated with new circuits, as necessary.
Replace lamps and lighting ballasts, as required.
Respond to off hour electrical issues, repairs, and perform some small electrical installations when needed, at the discretion of the Director of Facilities Management.
Support other team members when required for various work including set-ups, moves, maintenance or replacement of electrical components for HVAC equipment, seasonal landscaping support, and various other team duties.
This position is an essential duty role and will be on call for snow or other weather-related support activities including hand shoveling of snow, as required.
Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A current and valid State of Massachusetts driver's license.
One year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.
Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.
Knowledge of the principles and theory of electricity.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Electricians are exposed to the hazards of high voltage; climb and work from ladders and scaffolds; may drive for job related travel; and may work varied hours. Work at times will require exposure to the elements of weather.
Equivalency Statement
Applicants who do not meet the qualifications as noted above are encouraged to put in writing precisely how their background and experience has prepared them with the equivalent combination of education, training, and experience required for the responsibilities of this position.

COMPENSATION: Full-time, benefited AFSCME Unit Position - Job Grade 17, Step 9 with starting annual salary of $74,595. Candidates may qualify for placement above entry-level salary if currently employed in the State system. A copy of full State Classification Specification for Account is available in the Office of Human Resources, or at Position includes participation in a comprehensive employee benefits program including membership in the Massachusetts State Employees' Retirement System.
