HVAC Technician II

As an HVAC technician II, you will perform basic maintenance, including filter and fan motor replacement, and troubleshoot drains, fan and blower motors, heaters, contactors, reversing valves, compressors, and TXVs. Repairs and replacements (e.g., refrigerant piping, drain piping, wiring, and charging) will occur on commercial 1-40-ton, 5-40-ton and residential 1-5-ton systems. Responsibilities include adhering to schedules and timelines, coordinating with assigned staff to accomplish tasks, and advising your supervisor when emergencies arise and assistance from other trades is required. You will read and interpret blueprints, complete work order requests, and document issues that need correction in the work order system. Additionally, you will follow all OSHA and SCAD policies, procedures, and safety practices.

The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the principles of air distribution and the refrigeration cycle. They possess a clear understanding of both high and low voltage components and their functions, along with electrical components and control systems such as Siemens, Carrier i-Vu, and Trane Tracer. The candidate works well independently with minimal direction, consistently maintains a professional appearance, and is available on call to address emergency situations.

Minimum qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED and technical school degree in an appropriate area
  • At least four years of electrical experience in construction or maintenance
  • Knowledge of control systems

Preferred qualifications:

  • Knowledge of commercial refrigeration and ice machines

Certificates, licenses, and registrations:

  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid refrigerant card to comply with the Clean Air Act (CAA)
  • Acceptance as SCAD-authorized driver
  • Able to pass DOT medical exam*

Travel required:

  • 10-20%

Work hours:The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
