Job Purpose:

Under the supervision of WEMCO, Inc.'s Production Manager, the General Laborer's main purpose will be to complete tasks that are assigned on a day-to-day basis.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hands-on physical labor

  • Complete assigned tasks on a daily basis

  • Provide assistance to WEMCO, Inc.'s fabrication department, machine shop, paint department, and shipping department whenever necessary

  • Janitorial duties

  • Organizing and cleaning the shop floor of any trash or debris

  • Sawyer

  • Inspect and measure work pieces to mark for cuts

  • Verify the accuracy of cuts using rulers, squares, or caliper rulers

  • Adjust saw blades to ensure that cuts are being made in the correct place

  • Use the proper personal protective equipment to ensure that you remain safe while working with the saw

  • Sandblasting

  • WEMCO, Inc. already has a dedicated Sandblast Specialist, but you may be asked to be the back-up if they are ever absent

  • Operate specialized tools and machinery to fire high-powered jets of sand or other abrasives at metal and other similarly hard surfaces

  • Remove paint, grime, old adhesives, rust, and other imperfections from the surface so that it can be painted and refinished

  • Adhere to company rules and regulations

  • Ability to communicate with supervisors and co-workers in a respectful manner

  • Maintain a tidy and safe work space

  • Other duties as assigned by your supervisor

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED is preferred
  • 1+ years of prior experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred
  • Ability to read, write, and interpret documents
  • Ability to perform tasks without supervision
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (25-50 lbs.)
  • Prior forklift experience/certification is preferred
  • Punctual attendance and strong attention to detail

This position involves work in our shop and at job sites where work will be performed both indoors and outdoors. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand, walk, use fine finger manipulation, use hands to handle and grasp, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb and balance, bend, stoop, twist, and/or crouch.
