Position Overview
The Division of Mental Health is seeking to hire a Painter for the Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center located in Springfield, Illinois to receive day to day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer. Prepares interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceiling, and equipment for painting, applies plaster, joint compound, or spackling for the repair, construction or patching of walls. Lifts and erects ladders or scaffolding. Performs shop work at facilities. Inspects work sites to determine amount and type of materials needed for painting projects. Moves furniture or other equipment as necessary to paint weighing up to 50 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance. Travels in performance of job duties.
Essential Functions
- Receives day to day guidance and assignments from the Chief Stationary Engineer at the Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center.
- Prepares interior or exterior walls, metal surfaces, floors, ceiling, and equipment for painting, applies plaster, joint compound, or spackling for the repair, construction or patching of walls.
- Lifts and erects ladders or scaffolding.
- Performs shop work at facilities.
- Inspects work sites to determine amount and type of materials needed for painting projects.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
- Requires successful completion of a recognized painter apprenticeship program and two years of full-time journey-level painter experience OR six years of full-time journey-level painter experience.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires ability to operate power lifts and overhead platforms.
- Requires ability to climb ladders and stairs and work from heights on ladders, scaffolding and platforms, stand for long periods and move equipment, materials up to 50 pounds independently (up to 100 pounds with assistance).
- Requires ability to work overhead and on knees.
- Requires a valid, appropriate driver's license and the ability to travel.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
