The duties include but are not limited to:
Operates heavy equipment such as backhoe, grader, bulldozer, dump truck, tractors, mowers, etc.
Operates smaller equipment occasionally and heavy equipment on a temporary emergency or trainee basis.
Performs manual laboring tasks.
Washes, cleans, and gives routine first echelon maintenance to equipment.
Assists other crafts or departments as necessary.
Maintains accurate and timely records of time, labor, and materials.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with Supervisors, Foremen, and other employees.
Completes work assignments without close supervision.
Completes all projects as to neatness conformance with standards of related trade.
Performs light to medium level manual labor tasks with a wide variety of equipment used in the upkeep of campus areas, parking lots, storm drainage, etc.
Reports needed repairs to the proper departments.
Assists other employees and crafts in Facilities, i.e. carpenters, plumbers, electricians, warehouse workers, or other crafts.
Assists mechanics with repairs in main shop or in the field as assigned by the Facilities or Environmental Services Supervisors.
Assists with building up-keep and maintenance to include sweeping, mopping, dusting, cleaning restrooms, cutting grass, and other related tasks as directed by the Forestry Lead, Maintenance Director or Executive Manager of Facilities.
MAY BE ASSIGNED OTHER DUTIES AS REQUIRED.
MAY BE REQUIRED TO WORK AFTER HOURS, ON SHIFT WORK SCHEDULES AND WEEKENDS WHEN NECESSARY.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Must be a high school graduate, have trade school certification, or GED Equivalent.
Ten (10) years of experience in property/grounds keeping and routine maintenance of heavy equipment is preferred.
Must have knowledge of effective operation of heavy equipment, effective precautionary measures to avoid accidents, hazards involved in the use of heavy equipment and precautions to be taken.
Must have knowledge of methods and equipment used in building service tasks.
Must have knowledge of yard equipment and tools, occupational hazards, and safety precautions to avoid accidents.
Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Must have agility sufficient to do strenuous labor tasks under varying weather conditions.
Performs work requiring strength, works continuously while standing, and learns to operate maintenance equipment.
Must be skilled in operation of heavy equipment.
Must possess a valid Class A Alabama Commercial Driver's License.
Must be insurable as determined by MCPSS personnel into private and business driving records within any three-year time frame.

**Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo (or have undergone) an ABI/FBI criminal history background check (fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department) and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.
