Overview

Gem State Staffing-Caldwell is seeking skilled Pipelayers to join a water line installation crew. The ideal candidates will have 2-3 years of experience in pipelaying, with specific expertise in MJ (mechanical joint) fittings and trench work. This position requires reliable transportation to and from work, with most jobsites located locally, though occasional travel may be required. The pay rate ranges from $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, depending on experience (DOE).

Responsibilities

  • Pipe Installation : Install water lines according to project specifications, ensuring proper alignment, connection, and sealing of pipes using MJ fittings.
  • Trench Work : Perform excavation, grading, and backfilling of trenches to prepare for and complete water line installations, adhering to safety and quality standards.
  • Equipment Operation : Safely operate tools and equipment, such as compactors, pipe cutters, and hand tools, to support installation tasks.
  • Crew Collaboration : Work closely with a team of pipelayers and other construction personnel under the direction of a Pipe Foreman to complete projects efficiently.
  • Safety Compliance : Follow all safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a safe work environment in trenches and on jobsites.
  • Site Maintenance : Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring proper handling and storage of materials and equipment.
  • Quality Assurance : Inspect completed work to ensure it meets project standards, blueprints, and local regulations.

Qualifications

  • Experience : 2-3 years of pipelaying experience, with specific expertise in water line installation and MJ fittings.
  • Trench Work Skills : Proficiency in trench excavation, shoring, and backfilling techniques, with knowledge of safe trench work practices.
  • Transportation : Must have reliable transportation to and from jobsites, as most sites are local but occasional travel may be required.
  • Physical Fitness : Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials, working in confined spaces, and standing for extended periods.
  • Technical Knowledge : Familiarity with water line systems, pipe materials (e.g., PVC, ductile iron), and MJ fitting installation procedures.
  • Teamwork : Strong ability to work collaboratively with crew members and follow instructions from supervisors.
  • Safety Awareness : Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and a commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with GPS or laser-guided equipment for pipe alignment and grading.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic blueprints and project plans.
  • Previous experience working on water utility projects.

Work Environment

  • Pipelayers will work primarily outdoors at construction sites, often in varying weather conditions.
  • The role involves physical labor, including working in trenches and handling heavy materials.
  • Most jobsites are local to the Treasure Valley, with occasional travel to regional sites as needed.
  • Typical work hours are full-time, with the possibility of overtime depending on project demands.
