The Raytheon Hardware Engineering Organization leads the hardware design, development and production support of a wide breadth of air, land, sea, and space systems. The Hardware Engineering team strives to be the premier organization for mechanical design and development through our world class people and technology - creating trusted, innovative solutions to make the world a safer place. Hardware Engineerings capabilities encompass a broad range of technical disciplines which include engineering, technical services, materials, processes, analysis, test, and documentation.
Within the Hardware Engineering Organization, the Undersea, Sensors & Structures (USS) Department leads the mechanical design, development, and integration of a diverse set of products, including but not limited to undersea sensors and analysis, naval platforms, shipboard/ground-based processing and power equipment, and launchers.
The USS department is looking for a full-time Mechanical Engineer II to become a member of Patriot Launching Station Integrated Product Team (IPT) based in Portsmouth, RI that supports international programs.
What You Will Do
Perform mechanical design, development, and documentation of components, sub-assemblies, and major end items for defense system equipment in accordance with system requirements.
Collaborate across multiple disciplines/functions (i.e. structural/thermal analyses and electrical engineering) to solve complex technical challenges in a fast-paced, team environment.
Validate design fit and functionality by rapid prototyping and/or simulation
Support the factory and suppliers with product integration
Participate in design peer reviews, resolving action items, and conduct trade studies to make sound technical decisions.
Ability to travel internationally to customer sites or suppliers is required.
Qualifications You Must Have:
Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 2 years of prior relevant experience. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for additional years of experience
Minimum of 2 years of experience in mechanical design, documentation and fabrication.
Demonstrated ability to solve difficult problems while working as part of a team
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Experience with configuration management systems.
Experience with 3-D modeling software
Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer:
Experience in the specification, design, development, production and testing of undersea systems and electronics packaging. Knowledge of design for long term submergence, sealing, and corrosion resistance.
Experience on DoD programs.
Experience with PTC CREO and PDM.
Experience with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 GD&T experience.
Experience managing financial and schedule performance of mechanical tasking.
Working knowledge of Military and Commercial Specifications.
Experience with creating engineering drawings/prints
Experience with metal fabrication and/or assembly joining techniques (fasteners, rivets, inserts), or welding and/or bonding.
