Summary
The BIM/VDC Specialist I supports the BIM/VDC team by assisting with early BIM creation, clash detection, model updates, and coordination with design disciplines and trade partners. This role includes managing model exports, supporting site logistics and 4D/5D modeling, and collaborating with Pre-Construction and Operations teams across Kraus-Anderson offices to implement BIM/VDC initiatives. The technician also assists with reality capture (laser scanning, drone operations) and model quantity takeoffs forcost estimation. Additionally, they stay current with emerging technologies, contribute to team training, and maintain BIM standards and workflows.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Model Coordination and Management:
- Support the lead BIM/VDC Specialist in conducting clash detection by identifying and documenting coordination issues, as well as preparing meeting minutes.
- Perform regular updates and downloads of project models to support coordination and project management workflows.
- Support the export of models and related documentation, including Navisworks files, CAD sheets, and other project deliverables, as directed by the lead BIM/VDC Specialist.
- Assist in creating project-specific BIMs and provide graphical support for site logistics, phasing plans, 4D/5D modeling, presentations, sales support, and early-stage planning.
- Manage and facilitate 3D Coordination with design disciplines and trade partners on small scale projects.
- Support the review and interpretation of construction documents, RFIs, and submittals to aid alignment with the 3D coordination process and identify potential impacts on the BIM and project workflows.
Project Support and Analysis:
- Assist with model quantity takeoffs to support estimators and project managers in developing accurate project cost estimates.
- Assist with the maintenance and improvement company BIM/VDC standards, templates, and workflows.
Technology and Tools:
- Assist the Reality Capture Coordinator with tasks such as laser scanning, drone operations, and other project documentation services to support accurate data collection and visualization.
- Assist in the coordination of project-specific software and hardware requirements, ensuring seamless collaboration with trade partners and other team members.
- Stay informed about emerging BIM/VDC-related software, tools, and best practices, making recommendations to the team as appropriate.
- Support the evaluation and use of construction technologies such as drones, 3D scanners, and mixed reality devices.
Training and Knowledge Sharing:
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and local BIM/VDC user groups to enhance skills and bring knowledge back to the team.
- Assist in the documentation and dissemination of BIM/VDC-related information to internal and external stakeholders.
- Attend conferences, seminars, and workshops related to BIM/VDC, and share key insights and learnings with management and project teams.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- 2-year Technical Degree and applicable experience in design, drafting or engineering; utilizing recent versions of Autodesk AEC Collection/Simulation Software, SketchUp / Bluebeam software
- Familiarity with additional software such as SketchUp, Bluebeam, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Adobe products.
- Willingness to quickly learn new technologies and tools relevant to BIM/VDC.
- Basic understanding of construction sequencing and building systems, including Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) interfaces.
- Organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- Ability to effectively evaluate emerging technologies and processes.
- Ability to maintain compliance with all company policies and procedures
- Demonstrated computer proficiency (MS Office 365 – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to effectively communicate with internal and external customers
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, while maintaining a positive attitude and providing exemplary customer service
- Ability to possess and maintain exceptional work ethic as well as uphold company values and demand the highest standard of conduct from self and others
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Enthusiasm and commitment for mentoring all levels of staff
- Knowledge of national CAD and BIM standards.
- Familiarity with advanced construction technologies (e.g., drones, digital twins, AR/VR).
- Experience facilitating meetings or supporting clash detection sessions
Other:
- Valid Driver's License, ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record, and adhere to KA’s Motor Vehicle Policy.
- Part 107 Remote Pilot’s License (or willingness to obtain).
- Travel up to 15% of the time

Pay Range: $27.00 to $34.00 hourly, plus auto allowance discretionary incentive program.
Pay is based on many factors including but not limited to education, skill, experience, training, certifications, and other business needs.
