Job Title: Design Engineer

Job Description

The Design Engineer plays a vital role in overseeing the entire design process for a product, encompassing design ideation, proof of concept, verification of design against product requirements, and validation of product requirements to meet customer expectations. This position involves collaboration with various departments such as purchasing, sales, project management, and manufacturing, as well as working with suppliers in areas like injection molding and castings. The role focuses on electromechanical product design rather than machine design or automation, creating products with lasting impact and longevity in homes.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with lead engineers to define engineering specifications meeting market needs.
  • Manage projects or project components to adhere to schedule and deliverables.
  • Design electro-mechanical products that translate requirements into achievable prototypes.
  • Test and analyze prototypes to ensure design output aligns with product specifications.
  • Validate design outputs against customer requirements.
  • Document designs using Bill of Materials, SolidWorks 3D, and Product Data Management systems.
  • Work with suppliers to optimize technical aspects of purchased content.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to launch products into production.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant codes and standards through third-party agencies and testing labs.
  • Ensure components and assemblies meet industry and business standards.
  • Troubleshoot design, installation, application, and production issues efficiently.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and product design.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and project management skills.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Electro-Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or product design environment.
  • Knowledge of Lean Product Design, Design for Manufacturing, PPAP part qualification, and Failure Modes Effects Analysis.
  • Experience in designing for commercial products, appliances, or medical markets.
  • Experience in designing motion systems using DC gear-motors and electric actuators is a plus.

Work Environment

The work primarily takes place in an office setting, with occasional visits to a clean testing lab. The modern production facility/engineering lab is equipped with heating and air conditioning. Travel for field investigations and supplier evaluations constitutes approximately 10% of the role. The job requires regular sitting and use of hands, as well as periodic standing, movement, and lifting, with the possibility of lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally with assistance.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.86 - $43.26/hr.
