Job Description


JOB REQUIREMENTS: 1. Performs professional land surveying tasks by

providing or supervising all aspects of development of Subdivision

Plats, Assessor\'s Plats, Certified Survey Maps, Plats of Survey and

legal descriptions for deeds and easements. 2. Provides interpretation

of property surveys, deeds, easement, and other land records for Public

Works and other City departments in both in oral and written form. 3.

Work under the supervision of the project manager to assure department

goals are met. 4. Directs or conducts construction site staking and

related activities, including development of stakeout data from AutoCAD

plan sets. 5. Supervises and/or conducts field surveys to locate

property lines, and establish street, sewer or water lines and grades.

6. Compiles/supervises all field data acquisition for planning,

construction and other City projects. 7. Provides assistance to

Engineers and Engineering Technicians in preparation of maps,

engineering drawings, and plan sets for public works construction

projects incorporating plan and profiles, cross sections, and standard

details using AutoCAD Civil 3D computer-aided drafting and automated

civil design software. Assists with project specifications and

calculations of quantities, cost estimates and assessments; establishes

alignments prior to development of project plan sets. 8. Advises

engineers, contractors, developers, the general public, and City

officials regarding surveying issues relating to public works projects

and answers questions regarding lands in the City in general. 9.

Performs a variety of drafting and mapping operations including

preparation of survey maps, annexation maps, and other mapping related

to municipal facilities and projects using computer-aided drafting and

automated civil design software. 10. Responsible for development and

maintenance of horizontal and vertical control within the City and

provides coordination with Wisconsin DOT for the City\'s role in the

statewide Continuously Operating Reference Station network (WISCORS).

11. Provides safety training for Engineering staff relating to

Engineering field functions. 12. Serves as Survey Crew Chief for a

survey crew engaged in: setting sidewalk, building, and lawn grades;

design mapping and stake out of project sites for a variety of public

works projects; property surveys; establishing right-of-way locations;

setting of traffic counters and performing other surveys related to

traffic studies. 13. Operates a variety of survey equipment such as an

engineering level, digital level, total station, data collector and

Global Positioning System in performing location, topographic and

related engineering and surveying work; keep field notes; make

computations to calculate lines, grades and elevations. 14. Assists GIS

Analyst in preparation of municipal facilities mapping, and mapping of

other land-based features. 15. Performs various duties and special

projects as assigned. \*\*\*\*\* OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Four (4) or more years of experience in surveying and professional

engineering required. Experience or training in Autodesk Civil 3D

software, Trimble Access and Road field collection software, GPS and

conventional surveying equipment and methods, including robotic total

stations and automatic and digital levels is preferred. A combination of

education and experience that provides the depth of knowledge and

ability to execute the core functions of this position may be
