JOB SUMMARY: This position will diagnose and perform all major repairs tomechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical systems on our fleetequipment.

COMPENSATION: Starting rate is $28.18 per hour. You will reach top rate within3 years (current top rate for 2025 is $40.27)

This is a Union environment in association with the Amalgamated Transit Union,Local 282.

AVAILABLE SHIFT: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 11:00pm-7:30am, Saturday& Sunday, 5:00pm-2:00am (Thursday and Friday off)

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain, repair, and overhaul buses in the RTS fleet.Inspect and test equipment at prescribed intervals of time and usage or uponmalfunction or breakdown.Disassemble, inspect, and replace worn or broken parts. Fit and adjust newor repaired parts.Test drive repaired equipment.Notify supervisor of potentially dangerous equipment and corrective actionto be taken.Must be able to operate electronic diagnostic equipment i.e., computers,Cummins InSite, Allison, etc.Must be able to do acetylene and electric welding, brazing, and operate acutting torch.Drive facility tow truck to retrieve disabled vehicles away from facility.Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum of two (2) years of attendance at an accredited diesel mechanics school,in addition, may also have completed a certified course of study of the same butnot limited to: Auto Repair, Hydraulics, Diesel Engine Repairs, BatteryElectric Vehicle Repairs, Electrical Systems Repair, Welding.

OR work experience, verifiable by employment records, may be substituted twoyears for one for educational requirement.

Must have complete set of tools to perform all jobs assigned.Must obtain a New York State CDL Class B permit with passenger and airbrake endorsement prior to start date. Must be able to obtain and maintain aNew York State CDL Class B license with passenger and air brake endorsementwithin 90 days of date of hire.Must possess a New York State CDL Class A permit with towing endorsement forvehicles with a Gross Combination Weight Rating over 26,000 lbs. (can obtain ata later date). Must be able to obtain and maintain a New York State CDL Class Alicense with towing endorsement for vehicles with a Gross Combination WeightRating over 26,000 lbs. within 90 days of date of hire.Will be required to pass post-offer physical.Must obtain an EPA regulation (40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F) Section 608 andsection 609 of the "Federal Clean Air Act" refrigerant certification (universalcertification) for service and repair of motor vehicle air conditioning systems(MVAC)English proficiency is required due to the safety-sensitive nature of thisposition. To ensure the safety of employees, customers and the general public,an employee holding this position must be able to read, speak and understand theEnglish language. This proficiency is an essential requirement of this job dueto the need to effectively communicate and collaborate with English speakingco-workers and supervisors regarding work and safety related matters and tasks.In addition, an employee in this role must be able to read and comprehendmaterials written in English such as, but not limited to, specifications,manuals and other job-related documents.
