? This position supports the Historic Preservation Services office of theNational Park Service. ? The NPS Experienced Services Program is a uniquepartnership created to help solve the workforce issues facing governmentagencies. The program connects experienced workers (age 55+) to the NPS toprovide scientific, technical, and administrative support. ? NPS ESP positionsare meant to provide temporary, project-based support. This position iscurrently funded for an estimate of 32 weeks. ? A background securityinvestigation may be required prior to the start date. Only those positions with30+ hours per week are eligible for health insurance benefits; all positionswill accrue sick leave. ? The experienced workers participating in the Programare referred to as ?Enrollees? and are not employees of the NPS or NEWSolutions. NEW Solutions is the ESP non-governmental organization responsiblefor administrative aspects of the program, and the Enrollees work under NPSdirection to assist the Agency staff in carrying out their mission. NPS ESPEnrollees benefit from the opportunity to keep technical skills current; toaccess new training opportunities; to engage in gainful project-based positions;and to undertake meaningful tasks using their experience and talent tocontribute to the environment, the national economy, and their own financialsecurity.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 20 year(s) of experience in Architecture and Historic Preservation,or related. OR MA/MS Degree in Architecture or related

Significant experience providing guidance on complex historic preservationissues that is professionally competent and in accordance with relevant laws,policies and standards; experience developing and executing multi-disciplinaryprojects focused on the study, documentation, assessment, treatment andmonitoring of archeological sites and historic structures; knowledge oftechnical and science-based approaches to the documentation and treatment ofarcheological sites and historic structures; knowledge of traditional buildingtechniques and materials. Architecture license is preferred, but not required.Experience required with Windows, MS Word, MS ExcelAdobe CS (preferred, not required), AutoCAD (preferred, not required)Duties:

Projects will be conducted on an ?as-needed? basis in response to technicalassistance requests from individual parks and needs identified by programleadership.

Conduct inspections of historic structures in parks to assess their physicalcondition and determine likely causes of deterioration. Information to bedelivered to parks in format of their choice (i.e. professionalreports). 40%Recommend treatments that will address deficiencies and help to assure thelong-term preservation of resources that are professionally sound and meet theSecretary of the Interior?s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.Information to be delivered to parks in format of their choice (i.e.professional reports). 40%Provide mentorship to new and existing architecture professionals in the NPSand VT Program. 10%Develop task agreements through the CESU program to enlist NPS Cooperator(s)who can facilitate documentation, assessment, the execution of recommendedtreatments, and/or develop and execute field schools held under the terms of thetask agreement. 5%Other projects, reports or studies as identified by the Vanishing TreasuresProgram. 5%

Other:Travel Requirements: As needed to determine project scope and requirementsOvernight travel: 3-5 nights per monthAir travel anticipated: Rarely. 2-3 trips per performance periodRental cars: 5-6 days per monthHealth and Safety Considerations: Guidance and training will be providedon-site to ensure that enrollee is fully aware of health and safetyconsiderations (every site is different and will involve different safetyprecautions and equipment). PPE will be provided, where necessary.Required Safety Gear: PPE may include, but is not limited to hard hats, facemasks, gloves, safety glasses, and other gear necessary to ensure that theenrollee is prepared to work in varied environments.Safety Gear Use: While on site visits or completing field workPhysical requirements: Ability to work in varied and extreme environments,hike or walk in rugged terrain, and work in confined spaces.
