Title: General Laborer (Group 3)

Reports to: Designated Department Manager

General Summary:

This position requires routine general maintenance and parts running associated with all Departments within Support Services. Duties will include but are not limited to: assisting Mechanical Technicians, Painter, Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Auto Mechanic, Grounds, etc. Ability to tow trailers and deliver personal lifts throughout the district. Part ordering, pick-up and delivery will be required as directed. Must demonstrate acceptable interpersonal skills and working relations with co-workers, staff, students and the general public.

Essential Functions:

  1. Performs general job duties associated with assisting others, or under the direction of others, which may include, but is not limited to Mechanical Technicians, Painter, Electrician, Plumber, Carpenter, Auto Mechanic, Grounds, etc. (50%)
  2. Orders, picks-up, and delivers required parts to support all Maintenance and Grounds employees as directed. Orders, pick-up, and delivers parts and supplies used by the Custodians and Engineers for maintenance work. Ability to tow trailers and deliver personal lifts throughout the district. (35%)

  3. Maintains appropriate paperwork, prepares reports as needed and maintains accurate costs on projects completed or to be completed. Performs snow removal as required. Performs other duties as assigned. (15%)

Qualifications:

  1. Education Level: High School Diploma or equivalent
  2. Experience desired: Minimum 2 years experience working with general maintenance duties in a commercial or industrial environment.
  3. Other requirements:
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and meet all district requirements for driving school vehicles.
  • Physically able to perform required responsibilities.
  • Ability to perform tasks alone, or with others.
  • Basic math and the ability to measure and calculate quantities of material.
  • Able to work in cramped craw spaces and to work off ladders and scaffolding.
  • Ability to set up, safely operate, and care for all basic hand and powered tools.
  • Ability to assist with snow removal, with experience using snow blowers, small tractors and or trucks with plow blades.
  • Be available for on-call and overtime as required.
