The Solid Waste General Equipment Operator is responsible for performing specialized work in the operation of one or more types of general equipment related to modern Solid Waste operations.**Essential Job Functions**Operates one or more types of general motorized equipment, such as tractors, mowers, compactors, front-end loaders, small excavators, backhoes, etc.Assist in maintaining Solid Waste Facility grounds and general landscape maintenanceAssist in preparing pits to stockpile dirt, sand, gravel, etc.Operates mowers, bushhogs and power or hand tools to cut brush/grass at the Solid Waste FacilityPerforms routine preventive maintenance and minor repair on equipment usedCompletes fuel sheets, timecards, and daily work reportsPerforms a variety of manual labor tasks to assist in landfill operations and repair projectsAdheres to work schedule and attendance requirementsPerforms other work as directed and requiredSupervises inmates as needed**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**Knowledge of personnel rules and regulations, statutes, ordinances, regulations, and codes under which the Walton County BCC operatesKnowledge of the standard methods, materials, and equipment employed in basic construction and maintenance operations, including grounds maintenance workKnowledge of physical hazards and proper safety practices to be employed in public works construction and maintenance workKnowledge of the geographic layout of the CountyKnowledge of the principles for the installation of culverts and similar water-diversion structuresSkilled in the use of various hand and power toolsSkilled in the operation of light, moderate and heavy motorized equipment.Ability to perform pre-trip inspections and routine preventative maintenance workAbility to communicate effectively verbally and in writingAbility to establish and maintain effective, courteous working relationships with public officials, peers, other divisions and departments, and citizensAbility to remain calm in stressful situations and to take a teamwork approach to the job by cooperating with others, offering to help others when needed, and considering larger organization or team goals rather than in
