Job Description:
In this role, you will be responsible for quality assurance, oversight, and management of city-wide maintenance and construction contracts
Examples of Duties:
- Develops maintenance contract scopes, evaluates maintenance per established standards; makes regular inspections of work in progress at various facilities/worksites, approves progress payments, and makes necessary recommendations for schedule/contract modifications.
- Provides landscape architectural services, project technical review, plan renderings and cost estimates for, including but not limited to, landscape enhancement projects, playground replacement projects and street tree planting projects.
- Defines project scope, goals, schedules and deliverables.
- Directs and manages professional consultants and contractors from preliminary design through final construction and acceptance of project.
- Responsible for negotiations on contracts, professional service fees, fee amendments, and construction change orders.
- Plans, schedules and tracks project timelines and milestones using appropriate tools.
- Proactively manage changes in project scope, identify potential crises and devise contingency plans as needed.
- Attends meetings, makes presentations, and provides guidance and recommendations to various boards, organizations, City Staff or departments, included but are not limited to the Mayor's Design Review Committee (DRC) and the Technical Review Committee (TRC), or others as required.
- Reviews City projects and private development projects for consistency with the City's right-of-way requirements, ordinances and the Department of Parks' mission and overall plan.
- Effectively and clearly communicates with outside agencies such as FHWA, SCDOT, City Council, Neighborhood Presidents, and Professionals, City staff, County staff and other citizens.
- Responsible for ensuring projects meet requirements such as Federal, State and Local regulations, City and Zoning Ordinances, Minority/Women Business Enterprises, etc.
- Helps manage the Street Tree Bonding process and Street Tree Banking process and all associated funds / line items as they relate to the final approvals and plats for projects.
- Responsible for inspections as necessary for acceptance of street trees.
- Helps manage the Street Lighting program. This involves working with the public, City staff, and representatives from Dominion Energy and Berkeley Electric Co-Op.
- Includes inspection of existing, new, and proposed street lights; as well as coordination on new street light installation and existing street light repairs.
- Responds to inquiries from internal and external customers.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Landscape Architecture and 4 years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid state issued driver's license
- Database and operation systems experience with Microsoft Office, AutoCad, Photoshop, or similar software.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in landscape maintenance, horticulture, and construction.
- South Carolina Landscape Architect license.
Other Necessary Requirements:
- May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
- In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City's needs.
