Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for the design, layout, and structural analysis of new or existing communication structures for wireless telecommunication sites (towers, mounts, buildings, foundations, rooftops, etc.). Focus on structural engineering and architecture and engineering (A+E) design responsibilities. Specific duties: (1) Prepare formal written reports for clients summarizing results and recommending actions; (2) Perform calculations based on engineering principles and building code requirements; (3) Work collaboratively with the Structural and A&E group to prepare, draft, and review structural and A+E drawings; (4) Perform basic CAD tasks including structural modification and construction drawings for zoning purposes; (5) Coordinate with A+E team members for moderate to advanced CAD projects to ensure that structural designs and construction drawings are accurately represented; (6) Ensure accurate project status tracking to facilitate project management reporting; (7) Perform structural analyses of communication towers, antenna mounts, and related structures pursuant to governing building codes and standards; (8) Utilize a variety of engineering software including both specialized and general-purpose finite element analysis (FEA) programs; (9) Design basic structural modifications to increase capacity of structures when required per analysis; (10) Assist senior engineers in designing efficient structural modifications to increase capacity of structures and foundations when required per analysis; (11) Revise construction drawings per customer and internal redlines; (12) Develop a familiarity with individual client requirements in order to adapt to client preferences as needed; (13) Perform detailed checking and redlines work performed on projects under their direct supervision; (14) Manage timelines and deliverable quality on small projects with the assistance of the Engineering Manager/A+E Manager; (15) Assist senior engineers in completing engineered designs for concrete pads and equipment mounting frames; and (16) Utilize specialized and general-purpose finite element analysis (FEA) programs with proficiency in RISA-3D, TNX Tower, or a similar finite software suite. Less than 5% domestic travel required to visit job sites or meet with clients.
Minimum Requirements: This position requires a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Civil Engineering or a related field and 3 years related experience. Must also have 3 years of demonstrated experience with each of the following: 1) Performing structural analyses and structural modifications for variety of telecommunications structures including towers, tower antenna mounts, rooftop applications, and small cell / utility structures; 2) Performing structural calculations for applications including steel frames, advanced steel connections, anchorage design, and reinforced concrete foundations based on engineering principles and associated building code requirements, leveraging experience of current and past building codes and associated engineering standards as applicable to the telecom industry; 3) Utilizing both specialized and general-purpose finite element analysis (FEA) programs, including RISA 3D and TNX Tower; 4) Preparing technical reports of engineering analyses summarizing results, supplying recommendations, and professional engineering opinions for client assets that are sufficient for EOR standards; and 5) Creating structural modification designs for existing structures, including defining scope of work to be performed, curating a bill of materials, and supplying design references for initial hand-off to drafting associates.
