Job Summary:

Provide support and assistance to all shop personnel by receiving, picking-up, organizing, delivering and disposing of materials to and from shop, various suppliers and or job sites. Provide assistance to carpenters and carpenter helpers who remodel, repair, and maintain all carpentry related duties required on University owned or managed properties, such as kitchens, baths, doors, trim, windows, partitions, walls, floors and porches both interior and exterior.

Responsibilities:

  • Using pick-list or work order provided, organize and make ready materials such as cabinets, countertops, tile, lumber etc. for various projects. Deliver as required to job site at appropriate time.

  • Pick-up materials from local suppliers and deliver to shop or job site as directed.

  • Assist with neat and accurate restocking of shop materials as necessary.

  • Remove from job sites all extra materials and dispose of debris, leaving job site clean of materials, debris, tools and equipment.

  • Provide Journeymen and carpenter helpers in the field with general assistance.

  • Move appliances, furniture, building materials and debris.

  • General shop cleaning, and all general work areas, both interior and exterior.

  • Gather materials for workers to handle on job sites.

  • Keep job sites clean and machines serviced.

  • Cut and install ceiling tile.

  • Cut and fit tile or linoleum.

  • Spread adhesives on flooring to prep for tile.

  • Cut timber and lumber to specified dimensions.

  • Hold timbers, lumber, and paneling in place for fastening or cutting.

  • Drill holes in lumber.

  • Help set hollow metal doors and frames.

  • Install trim and cabinets.

  • Unload materials from trucks.

  • Frame wood.

  • Establish reference points and lines.

  • Smooth and sand surfaces using power sanders.

  • Performs all other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

Education, Experience, and Certifications:

Education:

  • High School diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Experience working in trades as laborer preferred.

  • Knowledge and use of common carpentry tools and machines required.

Certifications:

  • Valid driver's license and must successfully complete the University's Motor Vehicle Records process required.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:

  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions and to organize tasks for completion alone or with help required.

  • Communication in writing or verbally with carpenters, carpenter helpers, janitors as may be necessary for the efficient and successful completion of assigned work required.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be capable of strenuous daily physical activity such as, climbing, lifting, carrying, crouching, kneeling, driving and cleaning.

  • Ability to work with demolition tools, both hand and power.

  • Ability to work occasionally from ladders or lifts.

Pay Range:

  • $24.33 per hour
