Position Summary:
The Sub Arc Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welds using the submerged arc welding process on various metal components, in accordance with project specifications and safety standards.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate submerged arc welding equipment to fuse metal components according to engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding procedures.
Set up and adjust welding equipment, wire feed speed, voltage, amperage, and flux delivery.
Inspect and prepare workpieces to ensure proper fit and alignment before welding.
Monitor welds during and after the welding process to ensure quality and adherence to specifications.
Perform visual and dimensional inspections to identify and correct weld defects.
Maintain welding equipment and tools in safe operating condition.
Handle and position large steel components using overhead cranes or forklifts when necessary.
Interpret and follow welding procedure specifications (WPS), work instructions, and safety protocols.
Maintain a clean and organized work area.
Collaborate with quality control inspectors and supervisors to meet production goals.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Proven experience operating Sub Arc welding equipment in an industrial or fabrication environment.
Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, welding symbols, and engineering drawings.
Knowledge of welding safety practices, equipment operation, and maintenance.
Ability to operate overhead cranes and forklifts (certification is a plus).
Good understanding of materials and welding consumables.
Attention to detail with strong quality control awareness.
Physical ability to stand, bend, lift, and work in various positions for extended periods.
Safety Requirements:
Adhere to all Southland Steel Fabricators, Inc. Safety Rules, Policies, and Procedures
Maintain an orderly and clean work area.
Attending all required safety meetings.
Inspect the welding equipment each day to ensure it meets safety standards with special attention to welding leads.
Must inspect tools daily before each use, to include extension cords.
Always use hand and power tools safely with correct guards in place.
Wear personal protective equipment in accordance with policy and adequate for specific tasks.
Welding - Wear specific Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including but not limited to:
Welders helmet with appropriately shaded filter lens, with safety glasses under helmet.
Fire/flame resistant clothing.
Heavy flame-resistant gloves.
Respirators when welding harmful metals or when ventilation is not adequate.
Steel/hard toe boots.
Hearing protection.
Cutting steel with torch:
Wear either properly shaded safety glasses with a face shield or cutting goggles, hearing protection, steel/hard toe boots, gloves, and fire/flame resistant clothing.
Use proper friction lighters or other approved devices to light the torch.
Physical and Safety Requirements:
To do the job, the following physical requirements are necessary:
Ability to stand for long periods of time.
Ability to occasionally pull, push, carry, or lift tools, equipment, or materials 50 lbs. or less.
Ability to withstand occasional bending, squatting, or crouching.
Ability to frequently handle (hold, seize, grasp, turn, etc.) tools, equipment, or material.
Ability to work in inclement weather conditions, including cold, heat, and humidity.
