Licensed Journeyman Electrician

This is general electrical work in the installation and maintenance of a variety of electrical systems, appliances, and equipment. Work is reviewed for both quantity and quality of production by a Master Electrician.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following . Other duties may be assigned .

  • Performs ins t alla t ions of new electrical services, under the direction or control of a Master E l ec t rici an .
  • Performs electrical maintenance on city owned infrastructure, under the direction or control of a Master Electrician.
  • Performs trouble shooting on electrical systems using proper diagnostic equipment/instru m ents s u ch as, voltage mul t i-meters, am p probes , meggers, undergro u n d util i ty locators, fault locators , light meters, etc.
  • Provides supervision to licensed apprentice electricians, e nsuring work meets NEC an d N F PA70 standards.
  • Comp l ete assigned work orders issued by the Master E l ectrician Superv i sor.
  • Maintain effective relat i onship with City staff, peers and the ge neral public.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited high school or GED

Active Maryland Journeyman Electrical License

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, basic electrical schematics, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have valid drivers license (CDL preferred), Maryland Journeyman Electrical License, Masters preferred.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of the standard practices, methods, tools and materials of the electric trade; of local and national electrical codes and standards; of hazards and safety precautions involved in electrician work; ability to locate or diagnose and adjust or repair defects in electrical systems and equipment; and to make accurate estimates of time and materials needed for specific projects; skill in the use and care of tools, materials, and equipment of the electrical trade.
