The Mechanical Engineer will apply technical expertise and engineering knowledge to develop accurate, competitive, and profitable bids for complex projects in a dynamic and fast-paced market.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and layout complete paint finishing systems, including equipment sizing, selection, and cost estimation for major projects.

  • Review project scopes with Sales Managers and Sales Representatives to ensure system designs meet customer process requirements.

  • Communicate directly with customers, paint and chemical suppliers, and project stakeholders for technical input and alignment.

  • Utilize sound technical and economic judgment to maximize accuracy and output while providing timely estimates.

  • Develop cost-effective, innovative designs that lower customer costs through optimized system components and shop assembly opportunities.

  • Prepare detailed specifications for subcontracted and purchased items to ensure supplier clarity and performance.

  • Share best practices and lessons learned with team members to improve department efficiency and reduce proposal cycle times.

  • Support the Sales team through technical guidance, customer meetings, proposal reviews, and travel as necessary.

  • Remain involved throughout engineering and installation phases to provide design interpretation, estimate change orders, and support job profitability.

  • Assist in maintaining and improving estimating templates, standard pricing, and cost databases.

  • Document all critical project details thoroughly and consistently.

  • Represent the company at trade shows and industry events to maintain visibility and build professional relationships.

  • Participate in ongoing professional development and continuous improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in mechanical or systems engineering, preferably within paint finishing systems or related industries.

    • Experience in developing proposals for large-scale or custom-engineered systems.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel, and Word.

    • Strong understanding of paint finishing system design, applications, and cost drivers.

    • Ability to apply engineering principles to solve complex estimating challenges.

  • Other Skills:

    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills.

    • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

    • Professional Engineer (PE) license or eligibility preferred.

    • Multilingual capabilities are a plus.
