Fabrication Shop Superintendent opportunity at Triad Fabricators

Triad Fabricators, based in Evansville, Indiana, was formed by consolidating three legacy fabrication shops; Traylor Bros. (founded in 1946), Sterling Industrial (founded in 1982), and Traylor Industrial (founded in 1984).

Our focus is fabrication, which is what we do best, but as part of the Traylor Construction Group, we have the resources to see any project through from concept to completion. With both domestic and international experience, Triad has proven ability on a global scale.

Position Summary:

The Fabrication Shop Superintendent plays a critical leadership role within the fabrication division, overseeing all daily operations of the shop. This individual ensures that production goals are met safely, efficiently, and within quality standards. The Superintendent works closely with the Operations Manager to drive continuous improvement initiatives, maintain resource efficiency, and promote a strong safety culture.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate all fabrication activities across shifts.
  • Manage production schedules to meet deadlines and client specifications.
  • Monitor workflow and adjust as needed to optimize throughput and minimize downtime.
  • Ensure that equipment and machinery are maintained in good working condition.
  • Lead, mentor, and motivate shop personnel, including foremen, welders, fitters, and laborers.
  • Coordinate training for new hires and ongoing skill development for existing staff.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and enforce company policies and procedures.
  • Champion a culture of safety, ensuring compliance with OSHA and internal safety standards.
  • Conduct routine safety meetings, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Ensure all shop activities are in accordance with company policies, environmental regulations, and quality assurance procedures
  • Oversee quality control processes to meet or exceed project specifications and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) team to identify issues and implement corrective actions.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with strategic planning and long-term resource forecasting.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of work orders, material usage, labor hours, and progress reports.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and cost-effectiveness.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong leadership and team management capabilities.
  • In-depth knowledge of fabrication techniques, equipment, and materials.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints and fabrication drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with shop management software and Microsoft Office tools.

Education/Experience

  • Education: High school diploma or GED required. Technical or trade school certification preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum of 7 years of experience in fabrication or heavy industrial environments, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.

Physical Demands

  • Travel will be required to attend training and meetings.
  • Ability to sit or stand for entire shift
  • Occasionally requited to stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb.
  • Ability to lift, on a frequent basis, at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to speak, write, and understand English clearly.
