Facilities Services invites applications for a Campus Architect to join a collaborative and mission-driven team at the University of Montana, where their work will leave a lasting legacy. As Campus Architect, you will work closely with the facilities team, university leadership, and the wider campus community to guide architectural standards, planning, design, and construction activities across our beautiful Missoula campus and affiliate locations.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
Champion the campus aesthetic through thoughtful design, sustainable practices, and stewardship of our architectural heritage
Lead in-house planning and design work for a variety of campus projects - from renovations to new construction
Manage external design professionals on capital projects, ensuring alignment with university goals, budgets, and timelines
Advocate for long-term building performance, energy efficiency, and a cohesive, accessible campus environment
Collaborate across disciplines, bringing together facilities operations, project managers, academic leaders, and community stakeholders
Engage with city and state agencies, including permitting authorities and the State Historic Preservation Office, to ensure smooth project approvals and compliance
Work effectively within a team atmosphere that includes a range of Facilities Services staff including engineers, interior designers, project managers, trades, and custodial staff
Work independently in defining project schedules from start to completion, estimating project budgets, and coordinating with Facilities team members during and after completion of projects
Work in conjunction with, and reports to, the Associate Director for Planning, Design, and Construction
Minimum Qualifications
A degree in Architecture from an accredited program
Professional experience (minimum 5 years) in architectural design, planning, and construction management - ideally with public sector, higher education, or consulting backgrounds
A current Montana architectural license (or the ability to obtain one within six (6) months of hire)
Strong working knowledge of IBC, ADAAG, and sustainable building practices
Proficiency with design and planning software, including AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and MS Office suite. Experience with Revit is a plus
The ability to balance multiple projects, engage diverse stakeholders, and communicate complex ideas clearly
A commitment to teamwork, integrity, and elevating the student experience through exceptional campus environments
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Architecture from an accredited program
Ten (10) or more years professional experience in architectural design, planning, and construction management
LEED or similar certification
Proficiency with Revit

Compensation Title: Architect II
Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), 12 months/year
Probationary Period: Six months minimum
Benefits Include: Insurance package, mandatory retirement plan, partial tuition waiver, and wellness program.
