The Water Reclamation Division is seeking highly qualified individuals to fill the position of "Industrial Electrician I/II".
Job Description
General Functions
Performs skilled electrical repairs and preventive maintenance duties in an industrial plant environment, major building complex, or water/water reclamation field. Installs, trouble shoots and repairs new and existing controls and instrumentation as needed to upgrade and update equipment including incoming electrical services. Tests motors, generators, lighting and power distribution systems. Troubleshoots and repairs variable frequency drives and other motor controls. Supervises other technicians/electricians in the repair and maintenance of process equipment and/or building support systems.
Work is performed under the general direction of a higher level supervisor. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.
Representative Duties/Assignments
Industrial Electrician I
Performs electrical maintenance duties involving troubleshooting, repairing, modifying, and replacing damaged or malfunctioning electrical lines, systems, fixtures, controls and equipment in a major industrial plant environment or the water and water reclamation field with multiple critical processes. May sever as a team lead for staff assigned to assist them, helping them to become familiarized with equipment, tools, work procedures, and ensure safety procedures are followed.
Work is performed under the general direction of assigned supervisor or Master Electrician. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.
- Installs, troubleshoots and repairs low and medium voltage systems up to 4,160 volts with limited supervision.
- In accordance with manufacturer's specifications, performs electrical preventative maintenance on motors which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Refills or replaces all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment,
- Calibrates and maintains controls and process instruments and other instruments using a 4-20ma control signal.
- Works in enclosed spaces, adjacent to electrical equipment while installing or repairing chase pipes for wiring additional power or communication sources.
- Assists other staff with low voltage wiring while installing lights, switches and other low voltage equipment required for the maintenance of a safe working area or restoration of communication systems.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Industrial Electrician II
Performs skilled electrical repairs and preventive maintenance duties in an industrial plant environment, major building complex, or water/water reclamation field. Installs, troubleshoots and repairs new and existing controls and instrumentation as needed to upgrade and update equipment including incoming electrical services. Tests motors, generators, lighting and power distribution systems. Troubleshoots and repairs variable frequency drives and other motor controls. Supervises other technicians/electricians in the repair and maintenance of process equipment and/or building support systems.
Work is performed under the general direction of a higher - level supervisor. Performance is reviewed through inspection, reports, meetings and results achieved.
- Troubleshoots and repairs controls and electrical on heavy industrial equipment including drives and generators up to 12,500 volts power distribution equipment. Maintains and troubleshoots large horsepower motors up to 1000HP.
- Performs skilled electrical work which involves maintenance and troubleshooting of Utilities lift stations, water/reclaimed water plants and facilities.
- Performs electrical preventative maintenance on motors in accordance with manufacturer recommendations, which may require the removal of hot oils, greases and other liquids. Refills or replaces all items to maintain the integrity of the electric motors and the related equipment.
- Oversees the proper use and maintenance of equipment and supplies promoting continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.
- Prepares detailed scope of work requirements for work requiring utilization of outside contractors.
- Provides review and input of team contracts for UP systems, electrical maintenance, repair, testing and diagnostic services.
- Provides review and input of electrical related projects, schematics, plans and drawings.
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Industrial Electrician I/II
- Manages arc flash compliance programs and safety protocols in a live environment.
- Troubleshoots control systems equipped with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) using ladder logic diagrams and electrical schematics. Uses technical manuals and prints to isolate and repair control systems.
- Uses multimeter instruments for troubleshooting to identify voltage and ensure the safety of the work location while performing repairs.
- Performs troubleshooting and maintenance for all levels of infrastructure in water/water reclamation plants and lift station operation; works with mechanical and electrical equipment such as Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), fuses, breakers and contactors.
- Works with hand tools, climbs ladders and /or opens working pull boxes to run various types of cables.
- Interprets and understands Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)/PLC logic which involves reading and understanding data trends used in troubleshooting equipment.
- Utilizes a work order management system to capture and record electrical failures, views historical data, reports time and resources expended to complete work orders.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Industrial Electrician I
State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Journeyman Electrician
or
Six (6) years of training and graduation from a vocational school or program
or
Six (6) years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial setting
Industrial Electrician II
State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician
or
Six (6) years of training and graduation from a vocational school or program and two (2) years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial environment
or
Eight (8) years of technical electrical work experience in a commercial or industrial setting
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License by date of hire or promotion.
Based on area of assignment, must have the ability to perform in confined spaces and use safety equipment including respirator equipment per Orange County requirements.
Preferences
- State certified or State registered with Orange County as a Master Electrician
- Medium voltage electrical work experience
- Familiar with and utilized the National Electrical Code (NEC) standards associated with motors and generators
- Experience in water, wastewater or industrial operations and processes
- Familiarity with local Orange County electrical codes
