DESCRIPTION Michael Baker International is seeking a Project Manager - Highway to join our Highway Department in Illinois. The candidate should have experience in design, modeling, and plan production for IDOT and Tollway projects. The Project Manager will oversee engineering design and ensure transportation and public works projects are delivered successfully across Illinois. This role also includes leading and mentoring project teams in design and plan preparation for roadway and highway projects, municipalities, and counties. With limited supervision from the Department Manager, the Project Manager will coordinate activities of designated projects to meet goals or objectives within set time frames and budgetary constraints. The Project Manager will build and maintain relationships with key client decision makers, monitoring upcoming project advertisements and changes in the clients' organization. The Project Manager should support projects in other states, and multi-state licensure is recommended. A working knowledge of MicroStation/Openroads is required to perform the tasks mentioned. This position is based in Chicago, IL, with a flexible hybrid work schedule, subject to supervisor approval and client requirements. ESSENTIAL DUTIES Reviews project proposals or plans to determine scope, time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project, staffing requirements, and allotment of available resources to various phases of project. Establishes work plan and staffing for each phase of project and arranges for recruitment or assignment of project personnel. Develops/implements project plans/methodologies for complex projects, varying between single and multi-discipline practices. Confers with project staff to outline workplan and to assign duties, responsibilities, and scope of authority; Manages the resources of the project. Directs and coordinates activities of project personnel to ensure project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget. Perform analysis of project management development and success to align with company goals and strategies. Reviews status reports prepared by project personnel and modifies schedules or plans as required. Prepares project reports for management, client, or others, and performs cost management analysis. Develops and maintains client engagement to ensure satisfaction. May influence clients into winning work (new work added) for future projects. Confers with project personnel to provide technical advice and to resolve problems. Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies. Conducts safety meetings and training programs to ensure safety requirements are met. Generate and/or approve purchase orders, rebills, credits; reviews timesheets. Occasional to moderate travel may be required. Other duties as assigned. SUPERVISORTY RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises employees and indirect external project staff. EXPERIENCE 10-15 years related experience, either internally or equivalent external experience, and proven success managing complex projects. Preference given to IDOT, Tollway, and Illinois Local Agency project experience. EDUCATION AND LICENSURE Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is required. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the State of Illinois, or the ability to obtain an IL P.E. license within four months of hire. Additional certifications such as PTOE (Professional Traffic Operations Engineer) and/or PMP (Project Management Professional) are welcome but not required. Demonstrated problem-solving, negotiations and decision-making skills. Software proficiency - roadway design software (MicroStation and Openroads Designer), Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Bluebeam, Projectwise COMPENSATION The approximate compensation range for this position is $115,478 to $180,344. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
