Senior Project Engineer
Due to the nature of our business and a heavy industrial market, Bodycote deems this position to be safety-sensitive.
Position Summary: This position is flexible in location and can be based near a domicile plant within the designated region. This position will report to the Sr. VP of Technical Services. Projects will be assigned by the PMO Manager under the authority of the Sr. VP of Technical Services. The Senior Project Engineer will collaborate closely with the PMO Manager via a matrixed organization structure to ensure project management best practices and standards are followed. The Senior Project Engineer will work closely with a cross-functional team, including operations, quality, safety, and other stakeholders, to develop project scope, specifications, timelines, budget, and deliverables. Responsible for managing project risks, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards, and driving the project to completion on time and within budget. Maintains project schedule by monitoring project progress, coordinating activities, and resolving problems. Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan, scheduling changes, and recommending actions. Controls project costs by approving expenditures and administering contractor contracts. Strong leadership and communication skills are essential, as this position will be guiding teams through each phase of the project life cycle, from initiation to final handover. He or she will have a proven track record managing and delivering complex projects with budgets of $15M or greater.
Essential Job Functions (Duties and Responsibilities): The primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, the following.
Project Management:
- Initiation: Connect teams together in order to structure project opportunities.
- Planning: Developing project plans, schedules, and timelines.
- Budgeting: Creating cost estimates and managing budgets during the project life cycle.
- Technical support: Ensuring that technical specifications are met and solving technical problems as they arise.
- Change Management: Track changes associated with scope, specification, schedule, and budget, and execute change requests.
- Risk Management: Maintains risk register, identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategy to minimize, redirect, or eliminate project delays and disruptions.
- Quality assurance: Ensuring that the project meets quality standards.
- Safety: Ensuring that safety standards are met and maintained on-site.
- Communication: Coordinating with stakeholders, clients, and teams.
- Compliance: Ensuring that the project complies with all legal requirements, codes, and guidelines.
- Problem solving: Identifying potential problems and leading the team to develop solutions.
- Reporting: Preparing project progress reports for the leadership team and stakeholders. Report on a weekly basis the status of her/his project from all aspects.
- Supervision: Supervising the work of contractors and engineers, providing field support during the execution phase, start-up, and commissioning of equipment.
Engineering:
- Procedure/Process: Participate in the development and deployment of the PM & lockout/tagout procedure with the maintenance team by providing technical feedback and expertise as part of the deliverables.
- Technology: Interface with equipment manufacturers in order to maintain a positive working relationship and remain current on new equipment capabilities and technology advancements.
- Vendors/Suppliers: Develop and maintain a sustainable relationship with vendors, suppliers, and contractors.
- Provide a valuable communication link to all levels of Bodycote, from site leadership through executive management.
- Must have the ability to report for work on time, follow directions, interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow rules and procedures, and accept constructive criticism.
- May have access to proprietary and third-party information necessary to the business, and as such will perform duties in an ethical and professional manner.

- This position must satisfy ITAR compliance requirements; therefore, candidates must be U.S. Citizens or Permanent Resident cardholders.
- Education - Bachelor's Degree in Engineering and a minimum of 10 years' experience within an industrial environment or 15 years' experience in project management.
- Proven record of managing and delivering multiple projects ranging in level of complexity and budgets of $15M or greater, including equipment installs, brown field and green field projects, on time and within budget while maintaining the original scope of work.
- Must have a solid understanding of general industrial equipment and systems.
- Must be able to read and interpret complex schematics and blueprints.
- Must demonstrate the ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language.
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, MS Project, PowerPoint, Teams)
- Experience with AutoCAD is a plus.
- Must have or be willing to obtain PMI certification as a CAPM or PMP.
- Must be a self-directed individual, capable of evolving in a multi-project environment by prioritizing their workload.
- Ability to travel by road or air up to 75 percent of the time.
- Strong knowledge and understanding of contract language.
- Demonstrated success implementing or leading world-class processes, such as lean manufacturing.
Physical & Mental Demands: The following physical and mental demands consist of, but are not limited to the following.
- Must be able to work in a sitting position for extended periods of time (at desk, while driving, and/or on airplane travel) in an office/industrial environment.
- Manual dexterity to perform data entry functions.
- Ability to bend, pull, stoop, and reach to perform functions.
- Ability to lift 25-30 lbs.
- May be exposed to heat, fumes, noise, and humidity, etc.
- Must have the cognitive and mental capacity to perform essential job functions.
- Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Visual acuity to read documents, computer screens, files, etc.
- Ability to hear in person and via phone.
