May be subject to outdoor working conditions, including exposure to extreme weather conditions and temperatures, as well as above and below ground work sites. Shift 7:30am - 4:15pm (Monday - Friday) Hours of work may vary dependent upon situational factors, emergencies, and crisis management requiring night(s), weekend(s), and/or holiday(s) response. Job Summary Reporting to the Electrical Supervisor (High Voltage), this position engages in actions in support of electrical construction; renovation; and repair on UK Campus including: Assists electricians as needed in the plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes; Assists high voltage electricians engaged in manhole work including pump installation and maintaining secondary electric; Arranges materials, tools, and equipment in a certain order or pattern according to a specific rule or set of rules; Utilizes a variety of tools or equipment, such as power construction equipment, measuring devices, power tools, and testing equipment; Assists in constructing or fabricating parts, using hand tools, according to specifications; Recognizes and Identifies hazards, defects, or the need for adjustments or repairs to ensure compliance with codes; Works from ladders, scaffolds, or roofs when assisting electricians with installation, maintenance, or electrical repairs; Places conduit, pipes, or tubing, inside designated partitions, walls, or other concealed areas, and pulls wires or cables through the conduit; Assists in installing ground leads and small or plastic boxes to walls to house electrical switches or outlets; Performs physically demanding tasks, such as digging trenches to lay conduit, moving or lifting heavy objects; Monitors and reviews information from materials, events, and/or the environment to detect or assess problems. The Electrical Technician also provides assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators, placing flares, or driving needed vehicles. In addition, the Electrical Technician demonstrates excellent customer service for internal and external customers; Informs Electrical Supervisor and/or Maintenance Superintendent III of customer needs and delivers an appropriate response(s), as directed; Demonstrates progress towards reaching goals and objectives; Demonstrates compliance with quality assurance requirements; Demonstrates compliance with instructions regarding work in-process and upon completion; Delivers work results which are in compliance with established practices and standards, and overall acceptability of work; Ensures all assigned working areas are maintained in a safe and orderly manner and continuously free of trash and debris; Assists in maintaining appropriate inventory supply levels and initiates re-orders as needed; Operates and maintains equipment in a safe manner and requests repairs, as needed; Demonstrates compliance with PPE usage and cautionary signage; Demonstrates compliance with safety codes, OSHA, EPA, and other regulatory requirements; and Follows department safety and general rules and regulations. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities MS Windows/Office; KRONOS; SAP. Job requires helping electricians assigned to high voltage tasks by performing duties using, supplying, or holding materials or tools; cleaning work areas and equipment, as well as being careful about detail and thorough in completing tasks. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? No Preferred Education/Experience High School diploma plus five or more years related experience preferred. Driver's License Preferred.
