The Otis Lead Design Center in Farmington, CT is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a Staff Mechanical Engineer. The engineer in this position will be leading progressively challenging projects in innovation and technical/product development that support our business. The project assignments will require teamwork, research and problem-solving skills.

On a typical day you will:

  • Contribute or lead technical projects from development (concept, design, analyses and system integration) through execution, ensuring alignment with business goals, timely delivery, and high-quality outcomes

  • Mentor and support the development of junior engineers by providing technical guidance, career coaching, and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

  • Create or coach the use of Creo 3D Modeling Software effectively to support engineering tasks while following established internal procedures and compliance requirements.

  • Develop and execute comprehensive test plans to validate elevator components and systems designs and ensure readiness for release to production or implementation.

  • Support the investigation and resolution of mechanical issues and turn-backs, ensuring root cause analysis and implementation of corrective actions.

  • Drive innovation by identifying opportunities for new technologies, improving existing elevator components and systems.

  • Ensure that Otis products and processes are in line with the EH&S mandates and principles of quality, reliability, and robust design

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams including engineering, product management, manufacturing, and quality to deliver integrated solutions.

  • Work with global and regional teams.

What you will need to be successful:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or related areas, with 7+ years of work experience

  • Track record of successfully leading multidisciplinary engineering teams on technical projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business objectives

  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and a demonstrated commitment to developing talent and building strong engineering teams

  • Proficient in 3D CAD software (preferably Creo) with a strong understanding of and adherence to company-specific engineering processes and standards

  • Proficient in applying mechanical engineering theories and analytical methods to perform modeling, simulation, and analyses of elevator components and systems

  • Experience using root cause analysis tools to diagnose and resolve technical problems

  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes and practices, including design for manufacturability, assembly methods, and production workflows

  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation through the development of novel solutions, and the application of emerging technologies

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional team environments

The salary range for this role is $128,000-$143,000. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may change in the future. Pay within the salary range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business or organizational needs.
