DESCRIPTION OF WORK
As a Civil Engineer in the maintenance unit, you will be responsible for creating and submitting a range of highway plans, from basic to moderately complex designs. Your role includes developing plans, specifications, and cost estimates for maintenance projects that are both effective and efficient. You will also conduct design field views, interpret notes for material quantity calculations, and prepare construction cost estimates. Additionally, you will assess sites to ensure all relevant conditions are considered during the design process and collaborate with other departmental units to integrate their design concerns into the contract.
Your responsibilities will extend to requesting necessary information such as right-of-way, survey, utility, and traffic data to complete your designs. You will ensure that maintenance projects are developed and submitted on schedule while reviewing them during the construction phase to confirm that the scope of work is clear to the departments representative. Furthermore, you will address various maintenance field issues, provide technical support to department crews, and participate in final inspections and meetings, documenting minutes as required. Excellent customer service will be essential as you facilitate communication between maintenance and construction partners.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, after a successful probationary period, per manager's discretion. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Bridgeville.
+ Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $67,678.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Successful completion of the Civil Engineer Trainee training program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
+ Five years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an Engineer-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists;or
+ Four years of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and an engineer-in-training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists, and an associates degree in civil engineering technology or a closely related engineering discipline; or
+ One year of civil engineering experience in the appropriate specialty, and a bachelors degree in civil engineering or a closely related engineering discipline.
