A little more about being a Heavy Equipment Operator at Brayman Construction
The Heavy Equipment Operator will perform highly complex and difficult construction and maintenance activities by operating a variety of heavy equipment including but not limited to bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and cranes (ie Caterpillar 330 Excavator, Caterpillar D6 Dozer) for both rough and finish grade or similar.
Duties and Responsibilities of the Heavy Equipment Operator
- Operates machinery to excavate, move, and grade earth, erect structural and reinforcing steel, and pour concrete or other hard surface paving materials.
- Conducts routine inspections prior to operating equipment.
- Adjusts hand-wheels and depresses pedals to drive machines and control attachments such as blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms.
- Controls air and water output of compressors and pumps.
- Controls attachments such repairs and maintains equipment.
- Adheres to all safety rules, guidelines, and policies.

Job Requirements
Required Skills/Abilities of the Heavy Equipment Operator:
- Thorough understanding of the practices involved in the use of various types of heavy equipment (i.e. excavators, dozers, wheeled loaders).
- Thorough understanding of safety rules and ability to safely operate equipment.
- Superior skill operating assigned equipment safely and efficiently.
- Must be knowledgeable about and follow the company's safety policy and procedures.
- Must adhere to all safety regulations and procedures and work harmoniously and cooperatively with others at all times.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in units of measure.
- Ability to comprehend written or oral instructions.
- Ability to analyze machine malfunctions and repairs; operate and inspect machines by examining parts for damage or excessive wear.
- Dependable transportation & willingness to travel.
- Must be able to pass a background check in addition to DOT Drug Test.
- Must be able to physically operate heavy equipment.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent; completion of apprenticeship program or related experience and/or training.
- At least five years of experience operating construction equipment in a heavy civil construction environment.
- Demonstrated ability to operate construction equipment and perform rough and finish-grade work.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
Safety Sensitive Position
This is a Safety Sensitive Position requiring work on project sites, including federal projects, and in a heavy manufacturing facility with various safety hazards which are potentially life-threatening to the employee. This position may require working at heights, around heavy equipment, around high voltage, and under constantly changing circumstances. This position may also entail project site work at night and on weekends on an as needed basis. This position will be subject to more stringent drug testing and compliance policies associated with our status as a Federal Contractor.
