Your Opportunity

Plans, directs, and coordinates activities of designated project to ensure that goals or objectives of project are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters. Manages and directs scheduling/coordinating materials and labor, monitoring/influencing cost, and monitoring/ensuring quality and specifications of company and grower facilities for on time and on budget completion.

Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for on-site supervision of building construction as assigned by the construction superintendent; accomplish within budget and schedule from concrete to final inspection

  • Be responsible for special projects

  • Be responsible for quality assurance on assigned sites

  • Prepare project proposal or plan to determine time frame, funding limitations, procedures for accomplishing project and allotment of available resources to various phases of project.

  • Establishes work plan for each phase of project, and coordinates this with the selected sub-contractors.

  • Ensures project progresses on schedule and within prescribed budget

  • Prepares project reports for management

  • Coordinates project activities with activities of government regulatory or other governmental agencies

  • Supports the swine industry, company, and project department through positive relationships with growers, vendors/subs, company employees and the public

  • Write and provide first level of approval on change orders and work orders pertaining to assigned sites

  • Review and provide first level approval of liquidated damages time extension requests

  • Review and provide first level of approval on all subcontractor requests for payment

  • Monitor work progress, adjust scheduling under the direction of the construction superintendent as needed to meet the deadlines as listed in the master schedule Coordinate issuance of notice to proceeds with the contract administrator

  • Be responsible for on-site control and management of all materials and coordination of delivery with vendor. Assure all materials are on-site as scheduled to prevent construction delays

  • Purchase materials as directed and approved by the construction superintendent

  • Coordinate temporary and permanent utility connections (water, gas, and electric)

  • Monitor and control utilities (gas and power) usage at sites during construction

  • Keep a daily work diary

  • Responsible for following all environmental laws and procedures to which Smithfield Hog Production subscribes

  • Incumbent will be responsible for understanding and complying with company SIPS, EMS and BMS policies and procedures while performing their job duties.

  • Report all environmental issues immediately to their supervisor.

  • Read and understand the companys emergency notification process and will be responsible for reviewing that policy at their work site.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Highschool Diploma or GED required; plus, broad specialized training equal to 2 years of college

  • 3-5 years experience with building, construction, or related experience

  • Superintendent and/or project management experience preferred

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Excellent verbal communication skills

  • Ability to do basic math and keep accurate records

  • Must be able to operate a 4WD truck with a trailer and various construction equipment

  • Must be able to work weekend and evenings when necessary

  • Must be able to work an average 40- hour week with average 8-hour workday, which can vary frequently

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift 70 lbs. on a regular basis

  • Ability to climb over, under, and around equipment during construction

  • Ability to work in harsh outdoor and frequently noisy conditions

  • Ability to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, and odors

  • Must understand that Smithfield is a producer of high-quality pork for human consumption and must be supportive of the mission of raising swine for meat

  • Must be able to work under stress
