Project Engineer
Job Description

The purpose of this role is to provide technical expertise and leadership to the supply base, ensuring the execution of a robust quality plan within the supplier network. The role involves implementing a well-documented continuous quality improvement process and strict process controls. It focuses on the evaluation and development of new and existing suppliers worldwide to maximize Quality, Cost, Logistics, Delivery, and Management within the supply network. The engineer ensures suppliers meet corporate and business unit requirements for certification levels and customer requirements for quality, cost, and delivery of purchased material.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the trusted advisor for assigned supply base through functional responsibilities.
  • Assess potential suppliers via on-site audits and drive implementation of Lean BIQ APQP.
  • Continuously review supplier capacity, assuring production readiness through rigorous review of PPAP submissions.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to ensure proper process control standards and monitor key manufacturing processes.
  • Provide technical support during start-up activities and ongoing strategic support.
  • Monitor supplier adherence to Process Change Notification on a timely and cost-effective basis.
  • Develop the supply base to fulfill total requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership as QCLDM champion for suppliers and assure technical development.
  • Support category strategies, supplier development, performance management, and new supplier selection.
  • Evaluate and develop new suppliers' technological capability.
  • Ensure APQP activities related to process control are performed by the supplier.
  • Manage suppliers' project plans and activities to meet expectations.
  • Review APQP documentation and participate in process FMEA for suppliers' manufacturing processes.
  • Audit process control implementation and effectiveness.
  • Validate process capability and ensure PPAP completion and approval.
  • Review, approve, and validate 8D permanent corrective action plans.
  • Perform quality management system audits and Supplier Evaluation Surveys.
  • Participate in Supplier Performance Management Reviews.
  • Support 6 Sigma initiatives with suppliers and work to reduce waste.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of technological developments and trends.
  • Ensure implementation of robust solutions for quality problems associated with purchased materials.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
  • Three to five years of job-related experience.
  • Quality Engineering certification is highly desirable.
  • Engineering or manufacturing background .
  • Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures.
  • Good human relation and communication skills.
  • Potential for leadership and cooperative working relationships.
  • Solid ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools.
  • American Supply Quality ASQ quality certification desired.
  • 5-7 years of experience in supplier development.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Knowledge of 6 Sigma methodology, preferably Green Belt training or other experience.
  • Supplier Development Engineer qualification.
Work Environment

The work environment involves collaborating with various teams, including facilities, category teams, and suppliers, to improve supplier cost, quality, and throughput. The position requires coordinating work assignments and collaborating with engineering personnel on matters regarding product and process development, new product introduction, continuous process improvement, and engineering changes. Participation in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis with suppliers' manufacturing processes is a key aspect. The role is dynamic, involving problem resolution between suppliers and plants, engineering personnel, and facilities.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00/hr.
