The Nebraska State Penitentiary is seeking someone skilled in building maintenance, with a knack for getting broken facility plumbing items back to working condition.Effective July 1, 2025, the hiring rate will be $23.473/hour plus a $3/hour facility differential for hours worked.

DUTIES:
Install, alter, repair, and maintain pipe systems above, below, and within structures (walls, floors, ceilings, etc.).
Work with plumbing fixtures such as sinks, toilets, showers, tubs, water heaters, faucets, and kitchen/laundry equipment.
Maintain and repair components like traps, vents, drains, siphons, pumps, valves, and shock arrestors.
Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to identify and correct deficiencies.
Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications; sketch plumbing layouts.
Estimate time, materials, and cost for work orders; requisition necessary supplies.
Install and maintain fire protection sprinkler systems, sewage systems, and water treatment facilities.
Repair and adjust mechanical equipment including water/steam pumps, compressors, and fuel storage systems.
Ensure compliance with safety codes and regulations.
Train and guide helpers and apprentices in plumbing techniques and safety procedures.
Requirements / Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications : Training and experience in the plumbing trade.
Other : Must be willing to be on call 4-5 times throughout the year. Applicants accepting a job offer must pass the following pre-employment exams in this order: medical exam, and at a randomly announced time, pass a drug test. Once at the Staff Training Academy, must successfully complete the fully paid Nebraska Corrections Training Program.
