About the Role:

At Kalmbach Feeds, a Millwright is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, repair, and troubleshooting of a wide range of industrial machinery and mechanical equipment used within a feed manufacturing facility. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical principles, precision alignment, hydraulics, pneumatics, and various fabrication techniques to ensure optimal operational performance and minimize downtime. Millwrights will work independently and as part of a team, adhering to all safety protocols and company policies.

Installation:

  • Interpret blueprints/schematics to install machinery/equipment, ensuring precise leveling/alignment with structural components.
  • Assemble and secure systems (hydraulic/pneumatic/lubrication) per specifications.

Maintenance & Repair:

  • Diagnose mechanical failures in production equipment (conveyors, pumps, gearboxes, motors, mixers, bearings, and shafts), replacing worn parts (bearings, seals, gears).
  • Perform emergency repairs and collaborate with electricians to resolve complex issues.

Troubleshooting:

  • Rapidly diagnose equipment malfunctions using diagnostic tools; prioritize critical breakdown resolution.

Fabrication & Welding:

  • Execute welding (SMAW/GMAW) for repair/fabrication, modifying metal components via cutting/grinding/shaping as needed.
  • AWS D1.1 welding certification

Safety:

  • Adhere to LOTO/confined space/hot work/fall protection protocols and PPE requirements; promote safety through participation in meetings and maintaining a clean workspace.

Documentation:

  • Accurately record work orders (parts/time/description) and communicate job status/risks with supervisors/team members.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 3-5 years millwright experience
  • Strong mechanical aptitude, blueprint interpretation, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Expertise in hydraulics/pneumatics/power transmission systems; precision tool proficiency (micrometers/calipers).
  • Experience with rigging and basic machining
  • Skilled in SMAW/GMAW welding and operation of forklifts/aerial lifts.
  • Problem-solving focus with attention to detail; clear communication and teamwork orientation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift/carry up to 50 lbs regularly, endure extended standing/bending/climbing/kneeling in varied environments (confined spaces/heights/extreme temps).

Work Environment:

  • Feed manufacturing setting with noise/dust exposure; flexible schedule including shifts/weekends/holidays for 24/7 operations.
