Plans and performs preventive maintenance and emergency repairs on buildings. Maintain the campus as necessary. A large portion of this job is building-wide repair in several dorms each summer. Applicant must be able to work in various positions and with chemicals, including latex paint, polyurethane, and various stains and solvents. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Use a brush or spray gun in applying all types of paint products or other productive or decorative finishes to all types of surfaces, including buildings and furniture. Sand, scrape, or peel old surfaces to be removed Paint, stain, or seal surfaces to finish or renew. Cleaning and maintenance of mechanical rooms, shop areas, and vehicles as needed. Equipment and supply organization and inventory. Load and unload, identify building materials, machinery, and tools, and distribute them to the appropriate locations, according to work orders. Repair cabinets, desks, and equipment. Assist with snow removal Make and repair wood sash. Applicant must prepare items and components for paint or coating materials by methods and techniques such as sanding, wire brushing, scraping, taping, washing, or wiping with solvents or other methods under close guidance. Use a variety of common hand tools and power tools such as sanders, paint pumps, test and measuring devices, and operate various drying ovens and fixtures in the performance of the simpler duties of the paint and carpentry trade. Work a rotating "on-call" schedule (including some nights and weekends) QUALIFICATION: Prior experience painting in a commercial environment is a plus. Ability to read and interpret documents such as operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Able to interpret technical instructions in diagram form. Professional demeanor and positive attitude. High School diploma or GED Follow oral and written instructions and demonstrate the ability to express ideas effectively and concisely Demonstrate compliance with all required safety policies and procedures Willing to seek training to enhance or learn new skills Must be accessible and available in the event of emergencies or when needed to meet the ongoing mission of the College. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
