DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for ensuring a safe and efficient operation of all Guidance Center buildings, equipment, and grounds through oversite of Maintenance staff and performance of skilled maintenance, repair, and construction duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise staff, including scheduling, timekeeping, and performance management.
  • Oversee daily tasks of Maintenance and Custodial staff.
  • Assign projects and set daily work priorities.
  • Assist in hiring, training, and managing new employees.
  • Monitor maintenance expenditures to meet budget guidelines.
  • Plan and supervise maintenance operations, including preventive tasks, repairs, and new construction.
  • Perform planning tasks for work orders and special events.
  • Maintain inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure adherence to work safety and security procedures.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and leadership to plan and resolve issues.
  • Maintain records of all maintenance work.
  • Prepare administrative reports on maintenance activities.
  • Perform general repairs and maintenance for the facility.
  • Conduct ongoing inspections for safety concerns.
  • Ensure completion of preventive maintenance and inspections.
  • Enforce facility safety, infection control, and security programs.
  • Ensure timely completion of work orders.
  • Maintain facility grounds, including snow removal and landscaping.
  • Repair and maintain HVAC equipment.
  • Perform routine painting, plumbing, carpentry, and electrical maintenance.
  • Prepare facility for special functions.
  • Perform driving responsibilities for supply pickup and delivery.
  • Respond to alarms and codes as per safety procedures.
  • Participate in required training and professional development activities.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

Skills/Abilities

  • Broad base of knowledge and skills related to the building trades, including rough and finish carpentry, masonry and concrete foundation work, basic plumbing/wiring, heavy equipment operation, and the like. Project management and estimating experience. Plumbing or electrical license desirable.
  • Good understanding of institutional building maintenance operations.
  • High school level reading, writing and math skills. Oral communication skills and supervisory skills, with minimum 1-year previous supervisory experience.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a wide variety of college personnel as well as outside vendors and contractors.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred but not required.

Education and Experience

  • High school graduate or equivalent is required.
  • Technical trades training, relevant experience in the building trades and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills are acquired.

LEVEL AND DEGREE OF SUPERVISION

Supervised by the Chief Executive Officer. Supervision to include personal supervision and participation in general staff meetings and team meetings.

CONDITIONS OF WORK

Hiring and promotion will be accomplished in compliance with GCLC’s Personnel Policies and Procedures. This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act. This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week, generally Monday through Friday. Travel is required of employee for delivery of services, training, and conferences. Personal transportation is required.
