A Day in the Life
Help lead the effort to create global strategies for worldwide medical device approvals to introduce new products to market.
The Senior Contract Analyst is responsible for executing high-quality clinical agreements in a timely manner that balances the needs of all parties while maintaining internal and external relationships. In this role, you will be drafting, issuing, negotiating and finalizing a variety of clinical agreements (including budgets) utilizing enterprise-wide contracting processes.
All clinical agreement work will be done in accordance with company policies, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), legal and regulatory requirements, and using fair market valuation.
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
- Using customer service skills such as clear and persuasive communication skills, time management skills, adaptability, patience, effective listening.
- Analysis of Fair Market Value (FMV) supporting budget development, negotiation, and documentation.
- Liaising with clinical teams, legal, reimbursement and other functional groups on clinical agreements and informed consents as appropriate.
- Conducting outsourcing proposal preparation and analysis, contract development and negotiation, contract administration, and supplier contact activities to provide for proper outsourcing contract execution and fulfillment.
- Tracking progress of contract activities, providing status updates to internal and external parties, compiling and analyzing contract data, and maintaining historical contract information.
- Comprehensive understanding and application of clinical contracting and negotiation principles, concepts and industry practices/standards.
- Thorough understanding and solid application of clinical trial industry practices, including thorough understanding of clinical trial agreements and budgeting process and/or vendor and consulting agreements and processes.
- Manages complex contract negotiations. Escalates negotiations from email to telephone and to higher methods in an effort to effectively progress contract negotiations while managing cycle times. Involves other internal parties in negotiations as needed, including manager.
- Works independently and refers to established Medtronic policies, practices, and templates for guidance as needed.
- Drafts contract language per approved process using legal-approved templates and approved alternative language; secures legal approval as required. Periodically seeks input and guidance from manager and/or senior-level contracting team member.
- Uses sound critical thinking skills to review contract redlines for understanding and intent. Makes recommendations regarding how to proceed and secures additional input from legal, manager and/or clinical team as needed before responding to other party.
- May serve as a project leader for new or existing studies (with manager review/input).
- Effectively manages multiple contracting priorities and exerts influence as appropriate to ensure contracts are executed in a timely manner. Meets regularly, as needed, with study team members and/or other internal stakeholders and proactively provides status updates on contracting activities.
- Proactively manages workload in accordance with study milestones.
- Frequently interacts and communicates with internal customer/client, including senior management, and external other party.
- Recognizes opportunities to improve contract processes and proactively takes on process improvements projects after securing manager approval. Provides progress updates and recommends solutions to manager and shares supported recommendations with contracting personnel. Recognizes communication challenges; proactively and effectively addresses/manages issues with limited manager input.
Must Have: Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 4 years working with contracts and/or contract negotiation experience or advanced degree (e.g. JD, Masters) with a minimum of 2 years working with contracts and/or contract negotiation experience
Nice to Have
- Experience supporting clinical research or similar experience in a medical/scientific area Good Clinical Practices (GCP) background Vendor agreement and management experience Experience working in a matrix environment with proven cross-functional experience
- Previous experience in customer-facing role Project Management experience Experience with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$81,600.00 - $122,400.00
This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).
The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
