The Surface Team is hiring anElectrical Engineer IIto help build the next generation of Surface!

As an Electrical Engineer II on the Surface Quality Design Verification System Engineering (DVSE) team, you would get the opportunity to create and execute on audio Hardware design validation solutions across the Surface device portfolio.

  • Develop s test methodologies and plans, execute test procedures, debug/bring-up and project-manage qualification cycles.
  • Deepens and broadens understanding of quality to support best-in-class final products. Contributes to the development of strategies, end-to-end methodologies, test plans, and tools to meet quality standards and expectations. Independently aligns work with plans and methodologies for tracking and ensuring quality, as well as identifying and addressing issues across project work. Improves work based on insights and lessons learned related to audio quality and minimizing issues in current and future projects. Contributes to work with partner teams to support the application of testing plans and methodologies across groups.
  • Provides critical analysis of test data and drive the right solutions, design changes, and trade-offs in the context of business priorities.
  • Creates and introduces innovative test techniques and methods to ensure robust product qualification.
  • Utilizes your knowledge of critical performance data and your statistical data analysis techniques to set product test requirements and limits.
  • Works closely with audio Hardware and Software engineers, product managers and other external and internal partners to ensure end customer delight with Surface audio experiences.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience working with external partners and be able to clearly express technical concepts in verbal and written forms to write test documentation including test plans, procedures, and reports .
  • Experience in prototype system bring-up, debug, fault detection, test case automation and failure analysis .
  • Experience in root cause analysis to identify complex problems or flaws that may affect a feature or product design change to comprehend and assimilate technical concepts across multiple disciplines .

Other Requirements:
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Working experience with SoundWire , acoustic measurements , audible electrical noise mitigation , VoIP testing, ISO 532-1 metrics, BT audio and headphone testing . High level understanding of data processing and analysis . Working experience with MEMS microphones , micro speakers , objective / subjective tuning & audio quality verification .
  • E xperience in one or more of the following languages C/C++/C#, Python, PowerShell , JSON , MATLAB .
  • Experience in Audio Precision APx500 series audio testers, Head Acoustic ACQUA , Head and Torso Simulator , BT tracer analyzers, telecommunications voice requirements and acoustic test fixture design .

Electrical Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
