Performs a variety of duties involving the preventative maintenance and repair of Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Ambulances and other corporate motorized vehicles, including grounds riding equipment (i.e. front-end loaders, sweepers, lawnmowers, and snow blowers). Responsible for ensuring the completion of accurate regulatory compliance documentation, required for all EMS and licensed vehicles.

I. Major Responsibilities:

1. Maintains and repairs Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Ambulances to meet Federal Standards including truck, chassis and patient care areas.
2. Responsible for meeting the requirements of the Massachusetts Department of Public Health annual inspection of all Emergency Medical Services Vehicles and maintaining required documentation for regulatory review.
3. Assigns tasks to the Assistant Mechanic position and supervises the completion of assigned tasks on all vehicles outlined herein.
4. Responsible for tracking vehicle and equipment repair expenses, issuing purchase orders for supplies and tracking and keeping secure all Corporate Credit Card purchases.
5. Notifies the various department managers, with assigned Corporate and/or E.M.S. vehicles, of the need for repair of, or removal from service for scheduled vehicle compliance & safety inspections.

II. Position Qualifications:

Certification as an Emergency Vehicle Technician is required. Minimum of two years technical training, with three years field experience, OR five years of certifiable vehicle mechanic repair and maintenance experience, with EVT Certification, required. Ability to work with various computer diagnostic and power tools required. Must have a valid Massachusetts driver license (Class D rating preferred). Must have a valid Massachusetts Hoisting Engineer License (Class 2A rating preferred). Ability to read, write, calculate and follow complex English verbal and written instructions. Incumbent must be willing and available to work (on-call) flexible shifts, including nights and weekends. Must be able to work independently and be knowledgeable and capable of maintaining accurate regulatory compliance records and documentation of all maintenance and repairs. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds as necessary to perform job function and be able operate complex computerized and manual diagnostic/troubleshooting equipment. Employees must be at least 18 years of age to perform this role.
