Electrical Design Engineer - F/A-18 Lab Support
Location: 100% Onsite | Hazelwood, MO
Clearance: U.S. Citizenship + Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance (required before start)
Overview
We are seeking a mid-to-senior level Electrical Design Engineer to join the Flight Simulation Labs team supporting U.S. Navy Operational Training Centers (OTCs) for the F/A-18 program. This hands-on, lab-based role involves the design, integration, and lifecycle management of electrical hardware within simulation environments.
In addition to strong technical capabilities, we're seeking someone who can bring a fresh perspective and help navigate and evolve team culture, working effectively alongside highly experienced (and at times, change-resistant) peers.
Key Responsibilities
Design and support electrical systems and COTS component integration for simulation benches (OTCs)
Execute the full product lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, test procedures, implementation, and maintenance
Work with PC cards, resistors, transistors, cockpit hardware, and other simulation system components (Note: no circuit-level design)
Maintain lab hardware inventory and manage spare parts
Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams (hardware, software, systems)
Monitor supplier performance and ensure compliance with design requirements
Influence lab operations and team culture to promote collaboration and innovation
About the Team
You will join a team supporting F-15, F-18, and T-7A platforms. This role focuses on the F/A-18 OTC effort for the U.S. Navy. The team includes both employees and contractors, working to modernize its approach to collaboration and engineering workflows.
Basic Qualifications (Required)
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance prior to start
Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, Mathematics, or Chemistry
5+ years of relevant work experience (or equivalent: Master's + 3 years or PhD)
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering
Experience with:
Avionics, electrical systems, or mission system integration
Lab-based or simulation environments
Agile development practices and tools like JIRA
Project management and cross-functional team leadership
