Summary

Responsible for researching, developing, planning, designing, and testing mechanical and electromechanical products and systems, and directing and coordinating activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical or electromechanical products and systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Apply knowledge of engineering principles to research and analyze data such as customer design proposals, specifications, and manuals to determine feasibility of design and/or application, cost, and maintenance requirements.

Be aware of current industry trends, ensuring that the company maintains and expands its technology leadership position.

Read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and reports.

Specify components to ensure conformance with engineering design and performance specifications.

Direct and coordinate fabrication, installation, and operational testing activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.

Advise production personnel on the operation, maintenance, and repair of production equipment to obtain optimum utilization of machines and equipment.

Evaluate field installations and equipment failures to recommend design modifications for elimination of product malfunctions.

Design and develop test procedures and write reports, technical documents, and manuals to satisfy company and customer requirements.

Provide guidance to Job Coordinators and Technical Support staff as required.

Create drawings and solid models for fabrication of various company products using CAD software (SolidWorks).

Design and create electrical schematics.

Use computer assisted engineering / design software and equipment to perform engineering tasks.

Interact with and provide telephone support for customers and field technicians to facilitate troubleshooting and repair of equipment.

Design pressure vessels to ASME code and MIL Standards including calculations, materials specification, weldments, and

CAD drawing package.

Understand the function of and have the ability to use and program Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC).

Coordinate with various agencies to obtain and maintain third party product approvals.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's (B.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering and two years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, and legal documents.

Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community.

Ability to effectively present information to management, customers, vendors, and/or company employees.

Computer Skills: Competent with computer software including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, and Visio), Outlook, and SolidWorks.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

Ability to apply advanced concepts of algebra, geometry, calculus, trigonometry, and statistical analysis.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Requirements

General office / warehouse environment.

Ability to continuously stand or walk.

Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing written and electronic figures, viewing a computer terminal, and visual inspection involving small defects.

Constantly perform desk-based computer tasks.

May occasionally involve repetitive movements.

Frequently sit, sort, file paperwork or parts, grasp lightly, and use fine manipulation, bend, lift, carry, push and pull objects that weigh 50 pounds or less.

Multi-tasking with frequent interruptions.

Occasionally write by hand, use a telephone, twist, bend, stoop, and squat.

Working Conditions

May require extensive work hours during peak business planning cycles. Requires overnight travel domestically and internationally on occasion. A valid passport and suitable identification is necessary.
