Position Overview: The Senior Staff Project Engineer is a key member of the Supplier Development Engineering group, which is part of Insulet's Global Procurement and Supplier Development organization. Insulet manages a global supply chain and sources precision components and commodities from around the world for use in its devices. Responsible for implementing into production metal components by obtaining capital, managing supplier timelines, supporting the validation process, and implementing it into production. This role will be used to implement cutting edge technology in metals manufacturing for high volume medical devices. This person will work closely with peers in Quality, Sourcing, and Lifecycle Engineering to lead and implement new capital projects that improve quality, create capacity, and reduce cost. The ideal candidate has experience working with suppliers of custom precision components for use in medical devices and should have either strong mechanical/automation experience or strong process/data analysis experience. Six Sigma or Lean experience is a plus. The Senior Staff Project Engineer must possess a strong quality mind-set/background; have the ability prioritize to day-to-day matters knowing when to rapidly pivot to address critical issues/escalations and experience with part/process risk mitigation. The candidate should have the ability to coach and lead cross functional teams to identify issues within the manufacturing environment, lead a structured problem-solving process, and implement improvements. Candidates should enjoy the factory setting and be comfortable interfacing with and influencing supplier personnel ranging from shop floor operators to leadership. Responsibilities: Will lead projects within associated to metal components including stamping, machining, springs, and secondary cleaning and or coating processes Lead teams responsible for the procurement and installation of manufacturing equipment at global suppliers Lead, plan, manage and implement supplier capital qualifications from kick-off to implementation into production. Generate or review supplier validation/qualification protocols and coordinate their execution and final reporting Lead with teamwork and drive for results; able to work in a borderless organization and across multiple functions including, programs, engineering, purchasing and suppliers Fluent use of tooling design and DFM programs to design and standardize robust and optimum tools. Work with supplier tool shops to maximize Die economics and understand all aspects of the manufacturing of metals components Responsible for troubleshooting component quality and manufacturing issues Create and manage component risk assessment and mitigation plans Provide input to develop and execute DOE's, testing, and analysis Understand contributing factors which influence component critical requirements Provide cost effective and technical solutions to new and existing metals manufacturing cells Specify and review designs for equipment, tooling, materials, and part designs Apply advanced Engineering theories, principles, and methods to all things about metals manufacturing. Exercise decisions and judgment, utilizing advance Engineering techniques, about Engineering problems and proposals, applying expertise to solve simple and complex issues. Lead the technical aspects, specifications, and designs of complete metals manufacturing cells, including automation and vision inspection systems. Responsible to ensure that suppliers have accurate prints/BOM Support and address component issues with Insulet's manufacturing plant and CMs in support of 100% first pass yield at assembly sites. Education and Experience: Minimum Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Manufacturing/Industrial) Minimum 8+ years' experience working in a highly regulated industry Skills and Competencies: Ability to manage Supply Chain projects concept to production, including the authoring and oversight of IQ/OQ/PQ protocols for component manufacturing processes and secondary Good understanding of GD&T Strong written and verbal communication skills Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills Familiarity with one of SAS, JMP, or Minitab is strongly desired. Working knowledge of MS Office, including Office Project software. Six Sigma Process Improvement Experience/Certification desirable. Regulated industry experience preferred. Familiarity with cGMP practices desired. An outstanding team player who seeks and values diverse input to hone ideas, but who has the experience to develop strong starting proposals.
