Job Summary:
Salas O'Brien is currently seeking a mechanical design engineer and project manager for our HVAC design, plumbing, and fire protection projects in existing buildings.
Projects include design, construction administration, and project management for building management system installations, HVAC systems & equipment retrofits, HVAC controls, and plumbing systems.
As a Salas O'Brien design engineer, candidates will join a highly skilled team of designers pursuing engineering excellence in existing buildings. This position offers significant leadership opportunity and exposure to premier institutional clients.
Responsibilities include:
Perform heating and cooling load calculations with industry-standard load sizing software tools
Conduct field surveys to document existing conditions
Select and size HVAC and controls equipment
Develop HVAC sequences of operation
Prepare design drawings, specifications, and construction document packages
Develop project cost estimates
Perform computer-aided design (CAD)
Coordinate with equipment vendors for product selections, cutsheets, and quotes
Review contractor submittals, shop drawings, and as-builts
Conduct punch list and construction administration site surveys
Support other engineering tasks as needed
Required skills include:
Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from accredited program
New York State Licensed Professional Engineer preferred
4-7 years of relevant consulting engineering experience
Proficiency in AutoCAD
Working knowledge of NYC/NYS building, mechanical, and plumbing codes
Ability to work independently with supervision and collaboratively in team environment.
Interpersonal and communication skills
Time and project management skills

Salary Range:
$90,000-$125,000/year
Travel
: 10%
