Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) - Survey CADD Drafter

Our medium-sized survey and mapping firm headquartered in Boise, ID, with projects in Northern California, Southern California, Nevada, Colorado, Arizona, and Idaho is seeking a motivated Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) to serve as a Project Surveyor and Survey CADD Drafter. Key Responsibilities
Plan, develop, and execute technical requirements for large-scale survey and mapping projects or multiple smaller projects with complex features.
Provide input for proposals, including cost estimates, budgets, and schedules for project deliverables.
Initiate and track project progress using job status worksheets, reporting major issues, delays, or cost overruns to the Project Manager daily.
Solve technical problems independently or under the guidance of the Office Survey Supervisor, requesting scope changes when necessary.
Coordinate and review the work of a small team of surveyors, assistant surveyors, CAD operators, and drafters.
Perform tasks such as:
1.Researching public survey information.
2.Calculating traverses, closures, and geodetic/state plane coordinate control computations.
3.Interpreting and writing land descriptions.
4.Reviewing title insurance policies.
5.Reducing and checking field survey notes.
6. Preparing and processing tentative/final tract, parcel, record of survey maps, and corner records.
7.Conducting complex survey computations and applying CAD mapping systems.
8.Preparing topographic, boundary, and ALTA survey maps.
9.Setting up and checking aerial photogrammetric surveys and transferring electronic survey data.
Direct CADD staff, manage project controls, and ensure quality of work leaving the office.
Maintain a professional office environment and occasionally perform fieldwork at your discretion.
Participate in job completion reviews to evaluate team performance and identify areas for improvement.
Stay updated on new methods and developments in land surveying and mapping.
Qualifications
Education/Experience: Bachelors degree in Surveying and Mapping, a valid California Land Surveyor-In-Training (LSIT) certification, or a minimum of 6 years of related experience.
Technical Skills:
Knowledge or exposure to Autodesk 2025 Civil 3D, Trimble TBC, Trimble S7/S5 Robotic Total Stations, Trimble R12i GPS Receivers, and related survey software.
Ability to obtain FAA certification as a drone operator (company- sponsored) for aerial photo and site check projects.
Job Knowledge
Thorough understanding of land surveying principles, including legal boundary determinations, sectionalized land subdivisions, California State Plane Coordinate System, and relevant California statutes.
Familiarity with control and geodetic surveys, aerial photogrammetric surveys, survey accuracies, and modern surveying instruments.
Proficiency in office computers and computer-aided mapping systems.
