Zachary Piper Solutions is seeking a Mission Operations Development Engineer to join a National Defense Contract in Lanham, MD through 100% on site presence. The Mission Operations Development Engineer will lead the development of tools, processes, and procedures to operate the satellite constellation, including building out the Satellite Operations Center and supporting all mission phases from launch-to-orbit operations. This role blends automation, systems engineering, and cross-functional coordination to ensure mission readiness and success in a dynamic multi-satellite LEO environment.
Responsibilities of the Mission Operations Development Engineer include:
- Designing operational processes and tools for satellite constellation, with a strong emphasis on automation
- Developing the SOC, including configuration, troubleshooting, and integrating operations software tools
- Creating and validating mission operations products, such as procedures, command sequences, telemetry displays, and scripts - for all mission phases (LEOP, commissioning, and on-orbit operations)
- Collaborating with engineering teams and vendors to align operations products with system design and ensure smooth handover between teams
- Supporting readiness testing, including system-level integration, simulations, and rehearsals to ensure operations resilience
Qualifications of the Mission Operations Development Engineer include:
- 2-5+ years of experience in multi-satellite LEO constellations
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Math
- Comfortable working in a Windows environment
- Proficient in Python, Java, Matlab, C# or similar scripting languages
- Experience developing procedures for launch and early orbit (LEOP), commissioning, and routing operations
- Familiar with system-level testing, architecture reviews, requirements tracking, and mission readiness process
- Comfortable using version control (Git), Atlassian suite (Jira, Confluence), and deploying on AWS environments
- Experience with satellite telemetry, command systems, and other SOC tools
Compensation for the Mission Operations Development Engineer includes:
- Salary Range: $110,000-115,000 depending on experience
