Primary Function:
To inspect, repair, install and wire all electrical apparatus, devices and circuits, up to 480 vac and/or 550 V DC, in the plants or assigned area. To inspect, repair, replace, install, move, adjust, set up and maintain all mechanical equipment.
Tools and Equipment:
Electrical testing instruments, power hand drills, grinders, drill press, pipe threading machine, soldering equipment, pipe benders, safety devices, miscellaneous hand tools and measuring devices, hydraulic knockout, computer testing equipment. Portable drill, bearing puller, hoists, jacks, power lift truck, chain fall, power saw, buring equipment, arbor press, computers, lubricating equipment, etc.
Material:
All types and sizes of AC and DC motors and generators, transformers, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic controls, control panels, starters, switches, lighting equipment, power distribution and control circuits, conduit and fittings, wire and cable, hardware, insultation, solder, repair and replacement of parts. Plant mechanical equipment, repair parts, lubricants, hardware, packing material, miscellaneous stores, materials, various greases and oils, filters, grinding stones, v-belts, Plexiglas (lexan), requisitions/traveling forms, etc.
Source of Supervision:
Maintenance Manager
Work procedure:
- Receive wiring diagrams, specifications and instructions covering the scheduled and emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done.
- Analyze all types of drawing and wiring diagrams to locate and install circuits and equipment to determine material requirement needs and to select a logical approach to "trouble shooting" and repairing problems.
- Plan details of working procedure to effect the most logical approach to the job.
- Consider all safety precautions and the proper isolation of circuits to cause a minimum of interference to operations.
- Determine necessary tools and materials to perform required repairs and or replacements.
- Plan and perform work requiring a thorough working knowledge of electrical principles, wiring specification codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of equipment.
- Locate source of trouble of any type of electrical equipment by tracing and testing circuits and inspecting for faulty operation.
- Dismantle, inspect, repair, adjust or replace faulty parts and wiring on motors, generators, power distribution and control panels, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic devices, etc. Reassemble, test and adjust equipment for safe and proper operation. Perform work on "hot lines" as required. Replace coils, resistors, rheostats, relays, etc.
- Adjust contactors, replays, bus riggings, etc. Reconnect terminal leads, panel board and distribution feeders.
- Install conduit, fittings, switches, controls and fixtures, and wires and connect all types of electrical equipment as required for new installation or replacement of facilities. Make all required splices and connector joints. Adjust all new equipment for proper operating characteristics.
- Complete and maintain required electrical maintenance records and forms.
- Receive instructions covering the schedule of emergency repair, installation, and inspection work to be done.
- Inspect mechanical equipment for defects and insufficient lubrication, etc. Determine the best method of making repairs to minimize interruption of production. Advise when immediate shutdown of equipment is necessary to minimize damage or when temporarily continued operation will have no harmful effect to the equipment or to the operator.
- Dismantle, clean, repair, replace, install, maintain, assemble, and lubricate mechanical equipment. Adjust equipment for proper operating characteristics. Make either temporary or permanent repairs. Assemble and align gears, bearings, and shafts, involving the application of press, sliding and running fits.
- Operate simple machine tools - drill press, pipe threading machine, power saw, etc.
- Perform simple rigging as necessary. Make building repairs and is responsible for functioning of water and sanitary facilities.
- Change, install, and adjust equipment as required by current operating conditions and keep in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- The use of computers.
- Ordering all necessary parts and materials needed for maintenance and production equipment when required as approved by supervisor.
- Changing of all filters on all pieces of equipment.
- Maintain accurate maintenance shop records, PM's, lubrication records, and order parts, if necessary, as approved by supervisor.
- Change, order, and inspect v-belts on equipment.
- Maintain all present and future equipment.
- Repair broken windows when required.
- Ordering oils and greases, maintain inventory, and maintain air lubricating systems including lubrication PM forms.
- Assist and change grinding stones when required.
- Work with repair crews as directed on emergency breakdowns.
- Assist safety committee in correcting safety related repairs on machines, facilities, etc.
- Complete and maintain required maintenance repair or replacement forms.
- Maintain a clean and orderly working area as well as equipment.
- Practice safe work habits and follow established safety procedures.
- Assist and/or instruct other MRI's, millwrights, and helpers as required.
