SUMMARY:
Operates one or more types of small, heavy duty motorized, and automotive equipment and a variety of hand tools, power tools and equipment in the construction, maintenance and repair of the City's public works infrastructure.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates a variety of automotive, small equipment, and heavy-duty equipment which may include the following - backhoe, mini excavator, paving equipment, skid steer, dump truck, knuckle boom loader, shuttle truck, sweeper, and other similar equipment.
- Operates a variety of hand tools to include shovels, rakes, pick axes and other similar types of equipment requiring manual operation.
- Inspects, services and performs minor repairs on equipment as needed.
- Assists in loading and unloading materials and equipment and cleaning up work areas.
- Participates in all other operations as necessary.
- Completes all necessary and required forms, work sheets, and reports in a timely and correct manner that will account for time, materials used, work performed and other needful information so that a complete record will be available.
- Performs other duties as required.

- A minimum of two (2) years of experience operating required heavy equipment
- Non-US citizens must possess all appropriate documentation.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or acceptable equivalent degree is required.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions.
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner to the general public/citizens.
- Ability to write routine reports, logs and daily paperwork.
REASONING ABILITY:
- The ability to apply basic logic or reason in routine and non-routine functions of operation, maintenance and construction work.
- The ability to implement and understand work hazards and applicable safety measures needed for the job.
- Ability to exercise initiative, resourcefulness, and experienced judgment in interpreting and applying guidelines as well as developing and recommending solutions to prove.
- Ability to identify and evaluate machine functions.
- Ability to deal with nonverbal symbols.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS:
- Maintain a valid commercial license from the State of Mississippi.
- Class 'B' CDL is required.

- The work may involve overhead work occasionally.
- The work may involve standing, walking and bending at the waist frequently; and sitting, squatting, kneeling, crawling and climbing ladders or stairs occasionally.
- The work may involve use of the hands for simple grasping, pushing, pulling and fine manipulation of objects, tools (including power tools), controls and equipment frequently, and repetitively occasionally.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- The employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
