The Municipal Services Electrician in Milwaukee Water Works(MWW) installs, repairs, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical wiring andequipment such as pumps, motors, generators, instruments, and automatedmachines within MWW water treatment plants and the distribution system.

Electrical Diagnosis and Repair

• Diagnose electrical wiring components, systems, and equipment such as AC/DC circuits, high voltage systems, switchgear, transformers, and automated systems for malfunctions.
• Perform repairs on electrical equipment in the water treatment plants, pumping stations, booster stations, elevated storage tanks, ground storage tanks, and other facilities at which MWW has electrical equipment.

• Perform preventive maintenance on electrical equipment at MWW facilities.
• Maintain small and large horsepower motors and controllers.

Electrical Automation Support

• Work with the Plant Automation unit to install, troubleshoot, and maintain plant control systems such as variable frequency drives, chemical feed systems, instrumentation, low voltage systems, and other automation equipment.

Electrical Installation and Upgrade

• Install electrical equipment according to code and MWW standards.
• Analyze blueprints, schematics, and drawings of electrical systems for new construction and existing facilities.

Work Order Management and Recordkeeping

• Complete work orders using the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) to enter information, order supplies and equipment, and document work activities.

The Municipal Services Electrician must be willing and ableto do the following:

• Be available for emergency call-in work.
• Be available for evening, weekend, and holiday work, which may be assigned on a rotating schedule to meet the needs of plant operations.
• Travel to MWW facilities to perform work.
• See colors in order to use color-coded wiring systems (cannot have color vision deficiency).
• Work in confined underground spaces.
• Work inside water plant and pumping environments that include high noise levels and in close proximity to hazardous chemicals.
• Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, glasses, hearing protection, NFPA 70E Arc Flash safety equipment, and a respirator when required.
• Perform physical activities in the work environment that require agility, including ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps or poles; walking, standing, crawling, crouching, stooping, and kneeling; and reaching, balancing, pushing, and pulling.
• Work at heights in excess of 100 feet.
• Perform heavy physical work, exerting up to 100 lbs. of force occasionally and lifting and moving objects weighing 50 lbs. frequently.
• Withstand prolonged exposure to variable and extreme weather conditions including rain, wind, excessive heat, intense cold, and snow.

T he pre-employment medical requirements for this positioninclude the following:

• Physical/lift test
• Audiogram
• Vision test
• DOT drug screen

1. Four years of experience installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical services and equipment.
2. Valid drivers license at time of appointment and throughout employment.

• Experience working as an industrial electrician, installing and maintaining automation control systems.
• Successful completion of an electrical apprenticeship program.
• State of Wisconsin certification as a Master or Journey-level Electrician.

Technical

• Knowledge of electrical wiring, circuitry, and/or electronic components.
• Knowledge of the National Electric Code (NEC), as well as state and local electrical code.
• Practical knowledge of work involved in the installation, repair, and maintenance of the electrical systems described in the essential functions.
• Knowledge of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and the control concepts used with such devices.
• Ability to use test equipment such as standard multimeters and insulation testing equipment.
• Ability to read and interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and other electrical specifications.
• Ability to read and understand job-related documents such as policies, procedures, and manuals.
• Ability to use hand tools and other mechanical equipment common to the electrical profession.
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on mechanical equipment with a strong mechanical aptitude.
• Knowledge and understanding of the fundamentals of color coding of wires.
• Ability to effectively use Microsoft Office products, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Ability to learn and use the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Knowledge of and commitment to safe work practices.

• Verbal communication skills to effectively respond to repair requests in person and communicate technical information to non-technical audiences.
• Ability to work effectively as a crewmember in a team environment.
• Ability to interact with the public courteously and professionally.

The current salary range (Pay Range 7LN) is $92,987-$120,936 annually, andthe resident incentive salary range for the City of Milwaukeeresidents is $95,777-$124,564 annually. Appointment above the minimum ispossible based upon level of experience and other qualifications and is subjectto approval.

• Additional $1.50 per hour when designated to hold the Wisconsin Electrical Contractor License for the City.
• Employees will receive an additional 5% when assigned lead work.
